I am doing my first track day through Sport Bike Track Time at Talladega on Sept. 11-12 next month and I cannot wait. What are some things I need to do or should know about my 2008 XB9SR

Set you suspension up to according to the Shawn Higbee settings

They're a great place to start.

I assume you know to tape up all your glass (headlights, taillight, signals) and remove your tag.
Use blue painters tape it's the easiest to remove when you're done.

do a search and find the right pressures for your tires.
Tires are different so go by the manufacture's track/aggressive settings if you can find them and then look for advice from others running THE SAME tire as you.

I ended up running my conti sport attacks waaay too low because I was running the same low pressure as my friend who was running Perellis
Turns out conti's get really greasy when you under inflate them on the track.

Biggest thing is don't worry about lap times or going fast.
Concentrate on getting your lines right and being smooth and the speed will come.
Make your first priority not crashing.

Let me know how it turns out and if you want to do another one anytime soon.
I'll be doing weekend at Jennings Sept 4th and I'd like to get a couple more in this year.

Oh and if you get the Track Day Addiction get on www.floridasportbikers.com (I go by "Torque" over there)
They do a lot of track days at Jennings GP plus they have a member, X-man, who puts on the occasionally Tally or Barber track day.
They just recently did Barbers for $160/day, a helluva bargain, and no membership fees.

Little Tally is fun on the Buell, but it is very SHORT! It is only 1.3 miles with really only one right hand turn. Been there a few times.

Barber for 160 is a steal. Barber is like heaven....thats all I can say.

Barber is awesome.
I only got to do one day and had to leave early, next time will be two days.

I've been wanting to do Tally, it's cheap and everyone says it's a really tight track. I think if you plan to ride it often, or really hard, then a set of reversible tires would be a wise choice.

To tune the suspension all you need is a flat head screw driver, adjustable wrench and the adjuster tool for the rear shock spring (should be in the tool kit under the seat) Here's an old post that has images of the shop manual instructions on suspension adjustment. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/327 77/58666.html
If you need help I'm just down the road in Mobile.

Maybe. I thought you're the guy I met at the Pensacola HD open house. Did you have a blue XB9R you were stunting then?

Or are you the guy on the XB9SX with the homemade exhaust that I met on a ride around Stockton about a year ago?

I'm right down the road from Stockton.
You guys meeting at the gas station across from the Stagecoach Cafe?

I can meet ya there just let me know when.
