I want to put flush mount turn signals/running lights on my bolt. I plan on using flush mounts from a Yamaha R1. I want amber for the turn signals but a different color for the running light (white or possibly blue). Also when the turn signal comes on the running light should turn off so only the amber light is on. When the signal is off the running light should shine again. He is throwing out an idea and wanting feed back from others as far as if its a good idea, of if someone else has done this or close to the same or if anyone has suggestions. Xbtwelver you might want to go to buellxb.com when you have ideas badweb is for stock bikes with no creativity and make sure you spell correctly or they get upset. Dont expect to get positive feed back as most of them are close minded, snd if your bike is not exactly like theirs it is a peice of shit. In other words they are a bunch of Harley Riders on Buells who forgot to leave their attitudes on there other bikes. So if you have questions you must be very spicific and if you have ideas forget it, and go to buellxb.com. if you need good knowlage about stock bikes come here but if you are creative like mr Buell himself you will be talked down to here. | ||

Not true at all. Are you referring to your post about anodizing parts? You got lots of good advice. Go ahead and pay someone to anodize your pegs if you want to- they won't look good. Both of my bikes are fairly customized, and I am more than happy to discuss mods with anyone here...which is why I asked. You gave a 3rd possibility...he could be looking for opinions, he could be just telling us what he plans to do, or he could be asking for technical help. My fiances XB9S has a custom tail chop, lowered suspension, Kellerman Micro1000 signals, XBLights taillight, LOTS of custom powdercoating, custom graphics (designed by me in Illustrator), heated hand grips, anodized forks, HID lights, race kit, breather re-route and more, all done by me. My Uly has a Drummer SS pip, black rims, 1125CR mirrors/signal, 2010 1125 rear signals, comfort kit, custom LED lighting in the truck, rear brake light flasher, HID lights, City-X rear fender, black handguards and front fender and more, mostly done by me:  So what part of this looks like stock bikes? What part of my question makes you think I don't want to help? | ||

Andy, I dig your modified seat! I had mine just like that, but found it to be a bit too hideous  so I re did the whole thing with dark beads.  I'm still debating just painting them all black. They sure do feel good on long rides though! | ||

Yeah, that was the best $12.46 I ever spent at Wal Mart! ($9.96 for the seat beads, $2.50 for a spool of 50-pound test fishing line to re-sew it up after i removed a bunch of the beads, and to tie it down with). I have only used it once- on the way home from Homecoming, and it was great! | ||

I was just throwing it out there for some feedback and also I could use a little help. I'm not exactly sure how to wire it that way and what components are needed to make a product like the link I provided. I am pretty sure I will need a 3 wire hookup. One for the running light, one for the signal, and a ground. I am just unsure of how to make the running light shut off when the signal is flashing and come back on again when the signal is off. Sorry for the confusion | ||

thanks for the clarification  you are correct, you will need a 3 wire unit,or some wiring trickery! You could use a relay to shut off the running light whenever the blinker blinks...but then it would just go dim, bright, dim, bright, etc....never "off". a simpler way might be to use a standard 2 wire unit that is always on with running lights and use a relay to turn them off when the blinker goes. You would have bright running lights and the blinker would be a more obvious bright, off, bright, off, etc. I would be more than happy to draw a simple diagram of how to wire this if you would like. Heck, I probably have a relay or 2 you could have! | ||

You could use a double throw relay to get that effect. On my bike I have the stock signals wired through a SPDT relay so that they're normally on, and voltage from the flasher turns them off. 3 wires go into the relay, and 2 go to the signals. If you were to use a DPDT relay, you could make it so that one pole was wired like mine with running lights that flash off and the other side had turn signals that flashed on. You could also wire together some transistors to get the same effect in less space if you're more savvy. | ||

Do you think they are using transistors on the ones I found in the link? I can see something small and black that is attached to the circuit board. I would like to stay away from relays if possible and make a self contained unit like in the picture.    | ||

They look to me like they would be self contained. You would need a lead for turn signals, one for running lights, and one for ground. You might do better contacting the seller/manufacture to be sure though. That black piece does look like a transistor that would shut off the running lights when the blinker flashes. I think you might get running lights between blinks though. Just guessing though. | ||

after reading your link again, that's exactly what they do. That's a pretty cool product! Iike that you can choose 2 colors of leds so it's not just a brightness difference, it's also a color difference. Can you just use the LP housings those were made for and use that product? Or are you looking to make your own? | ||

Andy I would use the LP housings but I want something smaller. I plan on using Yamaha R1 flush mounts because I know they will fit nicely from what I have seen other people do. I want to do these on the front fairing of my Firebolt and also on the rear for a more sleek look. | ||

If the r1 flushmounts you're talking about are what I think they are then maybe the 1" round ones will fit when they become available? or: http://customled.com/custom_work/custom_work.htm To get what you want you really need to get a custom board made. The circuit wouldn't be so complicated as to be out of the realm of a DIYer going at it, but it would still be quite the project, especially if you've never done anything like it before. | ||

I was riding all day yesterday, and saw a thermometer saying 102 degrees at about 3:30! The butt was still pretty comfortable. Sure everything is hot, but at least the sweat can evaporate. Normally I would have been very uncomfortable on a ride like that. Actually it's been very hot since we left home on Friday so that was on the third day of all day rides in extreme heat and no monkey butt at all!  Say what you want about the looks, but for all the ragging that goes on around here about HD putting style above function, I have to have the last laugh. In this case function comes before form and it really works well. Today we only had severe heat half the day. We hit rain around Pikeville, TN and the temps really fell. That was wonderful! Gotta love the taxi beads! |
