This is a Buell question in one way in that it relates to the cost of registration for my bike.

Is it cheaper to register in NY or CT and are the testing requirements different for these states.

My ( possibly erroneous ) understanding is that in NY you have to have a test and therefore a sticker every year, in CT you get away with never having a test after the first -when would that be anyway ?

In the UK, the bike has to be tested every year after the third year of registration.

My NY registation just came today. Grand total of $14.00 for a year.

Do you have registation confused with inspection?

John,

Probably, the registration for my XB9S as a brand new bike in CT cost $86.00.

What are the inspection requirements for NY, the main reason I want to ask is that I have an old HD I want to register and as i have a house in CT and one in NY ,I was looking for the most favourable costs and least hardship , I don't want to get it inspected every year if I don't need to.

Thanks

In NY, they check your lights, brakes, blinkers, tires and pads for wear and collect their fee. 5 minutes if that.

Yeah thats about it. Last year the Honda dealer looked at my bike for 2 minutes and if the lights are working you passed.

Then they charge you 5 bucks for the Inspection sticker. Pretty painless all in all.

You do have to Inspect the bike every year in NY though.

Thanks for the guidance guys, are blinkers required in NY by law or just local application of the statutes.

Is there a source online of state laws stating what is required in each state and which years the regs apply to..eg NYSDOT, CTDOT

I think the Law States if the bike came with blinkers from the factory you have to have them for Inspection.

I have an ATK On/Off road bike that never came with blinkers from the factory, and it passes every year.
