So before I had a turbo on my bike, I had a drummer muffler and race ECM and my fan would hardly ever come on. In fact I'd ride with my friend who had a bone stock version of my bike, a 2005 XB9SX, and his fan would come on way more frequently. Later when I put a turbo on, my fan would come on all the time. A big contributing factor must be that my compressor ducting blocks the left side scoop. I just installed a right side scoop (the larger comfort kit one) and took it for a test ride and I'm happy to report the fan never came on, just like before the turbo! Worth every penny for sure and I like how it looks too.

Ya Mon! You can't just get on here and post something like this for some of us to wake up and read; only to not put pics up. SHEEEEZ
Mine works great too. I also have the small one, but don't know if it will ever be put on.
Now. Back to pics of that turbo............................

: ) I'm trying to order my right and left scoops soon here. Turns out they fit under Sharkskinz full fairing woooot!!

Kept your right left from burning during stop and go traffic right?

And you have a turbo Buell.....words can't say how awesome that is.

Yea...I bought mine before Buell finally decided to put one out....for my 12R.

I got all kinds of blasted on this board about the "fact" that if it were really needed..."Buell would have put one on"!

And the one..."it'll cause problems with the fuel rail".
The great thing about the fuel rail....it's BETWEEN the cylinders, NOT at the back.
Again....more freaken wives tales...!

That's one of the great things about many of these things done to these bikes...if it SOUNDS good...then it MUST be good...even if there is NO merrit/actual proof to back it (many of the modifications) up.
Again....Wives Tails...myths...

I agree,as I put the right side inner and outer scoops on my 2007 XB9,fan has not come on once,it used to run all the time. It must be doing something right!!

Must be a wives tail, because otherwise the OEM scoop wouldn't be made of two pieces, with one to direct air over the fuel rail.

But what do the Buell engineers know anyway.

Proof I'll have to dig it up. Abe wrote a artical on this in FUELL magazine. Sorry bro no myth or wives tail. I believe there is a complete kit for right side scoop if memory serves. Most just bought the scoop. Can someone elaborate??

Yep Dana, that is correct. In addition to several anonymous posts on here, Abe did the article in Fuell a few years back explaining it. A RSS that is mirrored to the LSS can cause issues in some situations, so that was part of the reason they didn't come with one. The OEM Large scoop is different. : )

The large scoop is designed to work as part of the comfort kit for Ulysses models, while all the other bikes got the smaller scoop.

I always thought the right scoop was one on the greatest updates I fitted on my XB12R 2 years ago , long before Buell reales one. I paid $150 for an aftermarket one , that I thought was worth every $. More power , no fan operation , no overheating , no problems summer or winter.

When I shared this info on Badweb , I was slapped on the face , made fun of , I was told I am crazy. Several Anonymous posts said a RSS was a bad thing , and if it was of any use , Buell would have installed it in the first place...............

2 years later , Buell is selling it and people that have tried it , they love it. So thank you people for proving my judgement correct.

So , would never - ever again just accept anonymous posts , and post from "gurus". There are many areas on any bike that can be improved , that the factory have not thought about. Especially a "new" brand like Buell.

Just for another interesting topic............. A spring loaded belt tensioner is 1000 times better that the OEM-fixed belt tensioner on the XB. Maybe , if Buell has not closed , it would have been introduced on the market by Buell.

The thing is , that 2 years ago , many posts from anonymous and gurus , were sayng that a spring tensioner were useless and dangerous.........but what do I know ?? They are the experts , and me immidiate feeling of the improvement on the rear suspension function , after fitting the spring tensioner , was my "brain" idea...........

Had my RIGHT side scoop since '05. It's comical for me to imagine it was a bad idea. When I first advocated it 5 years back people were open-minded about it, generally enthusiastic. Can't speak for the discussions of 2 years ago.

Umm that tensioner was available back in 04-05 can't remember. Anyways I bought one. You say you felt a difference??? Funny I didn't or another that I know that didn't either. I sold it after I seen one break and then reports of another on the BadWeb that broke. So Buell never did it..... 6 years after the fact.

It isn't a bad idea, just the design is bad in some applications. The OEM pieces were designed with advanced fluid dynamics software and don't have that flaw. Best of both worlds : )

Thanks Froggy, I am very curious to get a look at the Buell right side scoops. Do both the low profile and the large profile scoops cool the rear cylinder effectively? I'd also love to know the width of the opening on each of those scoops. As you read in another thread I am looking to get another scoop that will fit under my full fairing better. The low profile one is an obvious fit but looks (guessing) like it will not be as effective and the larger version.

How do you tell the difference between the large RSS and the "small" one?

Okay here's the pics (of cell phone quality):

You can barely see my left side scoop that has compressor ducting partially blocking it. I rode my bike to work this morning, another triumph, no fan.

My rss has cut the fan down to minimum wage. I put it on last September or so. It's the big scoop. Cheap & functional.
