I have put a drummer exhaust, Airbox conversion, and catch can on my XB12ss, it runs better than ever, but I keep reading that I should do a tps reset for optimum performance. Is that JUST for performance, or am I actually hurting my engine without it?

Your not hurting anything. If you get it remapped, you will have to do it. If its running great, leave it. Check the color of the spark plugs to make sure its not running lean. For optimum performance, get it dynoed and remapped. The tps reset will be included in the dyno test, as it must be performed if the fuel maps are changed. Your just fine. (probably runs like a scalded monkey)

The only time you really need to reset the TPS would be if your bike didn't know where zero is.
Throttle Postion Sensor
A muffler doesn't change the throttle postion, neither do any of the other mods you listed.
Now if you're talking about the ECM.
Well, that's another story.

I would typically check the TPS every oil change. I'd run ECMspy and if everything checked out fine I'd leave it alone.

Its easy and takes only a few minutes to do it, so you should it periodically regardless just to check if its still within spec.

If your TPS is off too much, your bike may run like crap. For example, if you go wide open throttle (100%), but the bike only thinks that you have it open 90%, you aren't going to get the correct amount of fuel. Granted, I've never seen a bike that far off even still idle.

I gotta differ with my good friend Frog Man, especially for a 2006, which requires serious effort to perform a TPS reset.

If the bike is running well, there's no need and I'd not do a TPS reset. The old adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" proves true for electronics just as much as the mechanical stuff. It isn't impossible to do a faulty TPS reset

TPS reset is not expensive and only should take 15 minutes or so at the dealer. If you bike has never had it done. Then it may be time to do so.

I see you ride an '06

A TPS reset is easy and free on '06 and '07's with ECM Spy.

It takes me 2 minutes to do it. I have found my TPS out of adjustment only 1 time.

I do a TPS reset on my bike when I do my spring pre-ride look over and oil change.

I'm with Blake.
I've well over 65,000 miles on my bike, and I've only reset the TPS at the 1000 mile service, and last Summer when I had to get a new ECM.
When I got the new ECM I didn't reset it then either (granted I was lucky it ran well) I reset it only after I flashed it with a new map.

If it checks out correctly, there shouldn't be a need to reset it. Pretty sure I remember ECMspy giving a voltage as well as the percentage readout. If it hits 0 when the butterfly closes, and 100 when you hit the open stop, I wouldn't bother with the reset.
