I looked into a tented tail light lens and found one for $40 on ebay that also required a red bulb so add another $3 so $43 plus shipping add $8 Total Around $50

Ok, so I went on a search and found this great product http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/tes/tes2949.htm

It is a plactic window black tint for models. I was unsure how it would work, so I tried it on my red stock tail light lens. It worked great! It is perfect and it actually becomes part of the plastic. It wont peel off over time. My stock tail light lens I did not need to by cause it came on my bike. plus $4:50 for the tint spray plus $4 shipping Total $8:50 I did not get a before pic cause we all know what a stock one looks like its bright red.

Here is a pic right after painting. Close up its perfect there is plastic stamped writing on the lens thats not paint runs or cloudy smear. When I held in from of a bright light it turns bright red just like it did before. It looks a lot better in person. I took the pic with my phone.

I have a blue wind screen that has sweral marks in it from when I bought it I plan to use this tinting on it as well. You can controll the amount of tint. the lens has 3 tints I may only do two tents on the wind screen. After using it and seeing the results up close I know it will work great on any plastic. Once I do my wind screen I will post a pic. I will also add a pic of the lens on my bike later with and with out the break light on..

i like it. it looks almost like candy painted. you may want to look into vht niteshade. it can be found at any autoparts dealer for $12 and is purposely made for tinting tail lights. you can just lightly smoke it or black them out. I went for a light from xblights.com after riding behind my own bike and realizing our bikes tail/brake light is not all that bright.
my s10 with niteshade on the tail lights

my lightning with xblights.com and my firebolt stock

brake

im not trying to steal your thread. i think your lens looks great it just dont know that i would feel safe with the stock lens much less a tinted one

Did you tint the tail light from xblight or was that an option I don't know about?

thats a xblights.com light. I didn't tint it. Its a prototype lens that they was using to experiment with the "smoked lens" they are working on for sale at later date. from what i uderstand the one they are working on wont be as dark. Robert told me that my lens isnt as bright as a red lens or clear lens version but still brighter than stock bt a long shot.

LOL, not to continue the thread stealing, but how do I get one of those prototype xblights!

Post related:

Since you used the spray tint does it seem to drasticly affect visability and how had is it to put on. I don't have the steadest of paint hands.

I dont think they are selling the lenses as dark as mine. when Robert from xblights makes the tinted lens (made tinted not coated) it will not be so dark. as far as tinting the lens. with that vht stuff i talked about its easy to do even to someone like me thats not good with it. it all depends on how dark you go but on my truck the light is cut down a little during the day time but looks stock at night. again i wouldnt do this on a buell as I feel the stock tail light is quite dim compared to other bikes. therefore I woulnd want to add tint to it to add to the problem

The tail lens on the truck looks kind of cloudy. My tent I bought from that link is totaly transparent, and not cloudy at all. I will post better pics with the lens on my bike soon so you can see how bright it is. I put it on the bike but I have not but my battery in it yet. Its so f cking cold! I will tomorrow and post pics.

the ones on the truck is just dirty from salt. thank you for the compliments on the Firebolt. the lightning has a l.e.d. tail light from xblights.com like i said in a previous he isnt offering that particular one but is working on a lightly smoked lens for later sale.
heres a pic of someone that completely blacked out the lights

heres lightliy smoked almost candy like which is like whats on my truck

by no means am i saying what brightbuell did is wrong. I personally think you did a great job and maybe your method is better than the vht stuff.

They are smoked as well. I could go darker but in person they work well together as they are.

Look into cling-tint from Walmart. That was popular option on the Ford Focus forum for tailights. It's cheap and reusable and gets the job done. Just don't go too dark....
