So, in discussion with a few tuning pros on the various other Buell boards, I've come to the conclusion that I need to be able to tune my 09 XB12Ss.

It seems that the best option is to pick up an 08 XB9 ECM, which has, thus far, proven to be successful in tuning with ECMSpy. The part number I have been given is Y0152.1AMA for the ECM, and it shows up as a "blank electronic control module" on the parts list.

Does anyone here know if using this ECM will indeed be successful in tuning with ECMSpy? If I were to take a stock XB12 map (from a tuneable year), and burn the eeprom to the blank ECM, would the bike function correctly? Would there be anything else I would have to do to get the ECM functioning on my bike? I understand that working with a blank ECM is a whole new ball game, but this is what I've been told in order to tune my '09.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

All 08+ bikes including the 1125's use the same ECM. They are shipped from the factory blank like a writable CD, and the dealer uploads programming onto it.

Rather than fuss around with different ECMs and whatnot, just get Directlink and tune your bike. It would be cheaper than getting a new ECM.

Froggy, would it be cheaper? The total package looks to be 300 or so. Where would you suggest I pick it up?

Also, how would I go about logging and adjusting the maps? I really only know what I'm doing with the megalog and ecmspy.

Oh, and I don't really want to have to install wideband O2 sensors in the cylinders. I would have NO idea how to go about doing that, so I'd like to be able to log and tune with the stock O2 sensor (I know the tuning will never be perfect that way, but I'm okay with that....I just want to make it better).

The new ECM is $400, and you are still at square one and need to buy stuff to tune it.

Al at American Sport Bike sells what you need for Directlink, he would be your best bet to contact about tuning methods and options.

A new ECM is 289 from a couple different HD parts retailers. ECMSpy is free, and a cable is 50. That's not MUCH more than the directlink system, and it would allow me to tune with the stock O2 sensor and a method that I am already familiar with.

That being said, I have contacted Al for his suggestions regarding the Directlink method.

What I'd really like to know is if burning a saved eeprom file to a blank ECM would render it functional. When I save an eeprom that I've fetched from the XB12 ECM I have on my bike right now, does it contain all the information that the ECM stores such that I could simply burn that eeprom to the blank ECM and have it working again?

Y0152.1AMA ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE, BLANK Retail Price:$352.95

You could get it about $35 cheaper from a Badweb sponsor like Liberty.

ECMspy is long discontinued, and will not work with what you want to do. From what I understand from others on here, you cannot copy your current ECM EEPROM from your bike as ECMspy isn't able to fetch the entire thing, so you would have to get it programmed by a dealer.

Ive found it for $282.36

I appreciate your help anyway. You've answered my main question, and I know the direction I need to head in now: DirectLink.

Thanks again!

no, that is
will only work with the same calibration

even blank ecm have a calibration in theme,
( at least the one's i have handeld )
the dealer is the only one with the tools to change / flash upgraded calibrations

ecm spy will only fetch the eeprom
( not the prossesor sw needed to completely flash the ecm )

I didn't think emcspy played well with 08 and 09. You can't download entire maps as I have seen. I would like to change a few cells on mine and it looks like I'd have to do it individually in hex. I've barely started playing with it, though

you don't need to buy a new ecm or direct link.

ECMspy will read all the data off of the ecm. It just doesn't intreprit it for you. If you have a lil time you can make a spreadsheet to do it all for you. Just look for patterns in the data file that match up to older ecms...

I did it and am now able to tune my 08xb12ss.

That's basically what the "other" program does. I'm interested in datalogging for both front and rear cylinders to ensure that the bike is tuned to the best of its abilities. Seems like DirectLink + O2 bungs and sensors in the headers are the best bet. Plus some time on the dyno, of course.

How are you tuning your bike, XL_cheese?
