It appears I have an oil leak from somewhere around the shift lever. I know its leaking primary fluid from somewhere in that vicinity. I guess its possible it could be coming from where the clutch cable connects, but it really looks like its coming from the bolt that holds on the shifter. Is that possible?

yep, mine does it, but probably not for the same reasons yours is.. they have thick o-rings at the dealer, maybe you need a new one.

while on the oil leak thread....
my return line from the oil cooler has a leak. just today i took off the exhaust and cleaned the bikes belly, i prolly got a pound of oil gook off from it. And I think my whole case is leaking too!.. there was live oil hanging around on the crack where the two cases meet. what to do!?!? I can swap out the return line one easily, but the case seepage.. has anyone had this issue?

It might be coming out of where the shaft comes out of the primary for the shift linkage. Mine started to leak, but I poked it a few times and it hasn't leaked since. Its not hard to replace should it end up being that o-ring.

Its definitely not coming from the shift shaft. Its down much lower on the bottom side of the primary cover, where the cable connects. I just don't know what to order to fix it.

There is an O-ring on that cable where it connects into the case. I couldn't tell you the size off hand, but I would replace that O-ring and take it from there.

It is common for the cable to leak..a nick in the outer cover of the cable near where it is crimped into the end that screws into the primary cover...it's not likely at all for there to be a leak from the shifter bolt.

If you replace your clutch cable or O-ring, DON'T over-tighten the cable where it screws into the primary. It will break off VERY easily. DAMHIK.

To expand on busterx's post, we say "If it isn't leaking, something is wrong." But of course this isn't an FA-18.
