Hello guys. I need your help or advice. I am going to buy a Buell XB9s. But it is not new model It was built in 2004 year and mileage is 4660 km (kilometres, not miles!) As bike is not new. Could you told me what I should look on or what I need check before buying? Is there any "blind spot" of that bike? welcome to the madness and to BadWeB i have a 2003 xb9s maybe a new battery,and just check the normal wear items,tires,brakes,fluids. service and parts manuals can be had from buell or also used on ebay best of luck and show us more pics once u buy it. scott | ||

I am not sure if the belts were changed in 2004. The older belts were very fragile if improperly handled (twisted when removing wheel) and the later belts were an improvement... but the later belts required changing both pulleys. Before 2008, the engines had the smaller big-end bearings and if you made a habit of hitting the rev limiter, you could damage the bottom end. I do not know if you are comfortable doing your own mechanic work - but I'd strongly recommend getting a shop manual and parts manual if you don't live near a shop that you feel is GOOD for working on Buells. I have my second 2003 and while it is now converted to a race-only bike, it was used for almost 50,000 miles by a friend before the engine needed work (and I bought it) YES - When you buy it SHOW US PICTURES!!! | ||

to Pogue_mahone: Ok. I will change the battery if it need. Also I will change all fluids. Only engine oil and may be the braking fluid too. Something else? When I had looked at it last time the plastic was normal. BTW I have no experience for buying something from e-bay. I am not sure that there is a delivery to Russian Federation. ___________ to Slaughter. Thank you for your remark about belts. Probably do you know where I can find photos to see how both the new and the old belts look like? I just want to compare views by photos with belt of my future bike. Also can you say to me how I can recognize if the smaller big-end bearings has been damaged before or not? May be there is a special sound from the engine or something else?. BTW. Where can I find a table where there is a marks when or after how many kilometres/miles I have to replace filter and air filter, oil, devices for engine sparks (I do not know how it called in English ) in other words changing of expendable materials. About photo. Of course I take its when the bike is mine. | ||

An '04 will have the new style belt, don't need to do anything there if it's in good shape, no tears or cracks. I'd change the oil about every 7-10,000km. I change the primary fluid when I change the oil, you can use the same 20/50 weight oil for both. If the air filter is the stock one, change it when it gets too dirty, shouldn't have to do that more than every 1-2 years. If it's the race air filter (K&N style) clean it every year or so, depending on how dirty it gets.Change spark plugs every 22-25,000km. Just took a look at the pictures. That is a good looking XB9SX. Frame "pucks" are the plastic "sliders" that are stuck onto the frame where it would touch the ground when falling. Product info (click)  | ||

BTW... I read information about frame punks from link which Slaughter gave me. There are the lines from here: "Fits '06-'07 XB12Ss and XB12X models. Stock on '08-later XB12X, XB12XT and XB12Ss models. Sold in pairs." Does anybody know if can its be fit for XB9s '04? | ||

Vasily, The word "puck" is commonly used in ice hockey - the hockey puck is the object in play. They slide, they get scratched, and if you glued one to the side of your Buell, they probably would give protection! Ice hockey should be more familiar to a Russian than our "funny" use of words! Guys... I am happy. I bought it on last Friday and have rode ~400km yet I so happy... But there is a little problem with front left turn. There is the nut which holds the turn on part of frame. It was untwisted after my riding and I can not twist it because it is on back side. (a attached image) Does anybody know how to twist it?  | ||

That one is a pain, you need to take off the flyscreen to access it. There are 4 Allen key screws holding the flyscreen, those come out, then you use a wrench on the turn signal nut. | ||

Hey guys, you advice on the frame pucks, but this bike has fiberglass frame protectors, they are painted in silver, like the frame. I wouldn't stick the black ones on top of the fiberglass ones. | ||
