My son was in a bad auto accident September 28, 2008. He has a white 2003 Buell XB9R (998cc) with less than 2,000 miles. He purchased it new. He is now unable to ride it because he had damage to his left foot (no feeling - 3 nerves were damaged and has lots of pain). Can you let me know what the motorcycle is worth so we can sell it. Thank you all so much for any help you can give me. |

A good range would be $3500 to $5000 It really depends on the condition of the bike. If it's a one owner bike with those low miles I would expect it to be in excellent condition. If that is the case, $5000 would be reasonable, $4500 would be a good deal for someone and $4000 or less would be a steal. of course that's just my opinion, I'm not in the market for another bike right now. |

Those numbers sound fair. I hope your son feels better soon. |

If he wants to ride there is no reason for him to give it up. I have similar issues (root evulsion of the sciatic nerve to the left leg) and my left leg and foot are paralyzed. I installed a power shifter made by translogic in the UK so that I could continue to ride. In my opinion this is not the time to give up things he loves to do, it's time to find new ways to do them. If he allows himself to let the injuries define him and set his limitations he is on the fast track to deep depression. Been there, done that. If he has questions or things he'd like to talk about with someone in a similar situation feel free to have him contact me. I've been coping with these issues for 5 1/2 years. I've PM'd you so that he can contact me directly if he wishes to. (Message edited by diablobrian on February 24, 2009) |

Nope, I'm just a guy who, like anybody else, tries his best to make lemonade out of the lemons. As I've said before though without my kids I would have had a harder time, I can't let them see me give up just because something is hard to do, so the need to be their role model pushes me to try harder. Even when every fiber of my being is screaming that I should quit. It's hard work being a Dad. |
