I've been sitting on this damn bucket in the garage so long my ass is numb. I've got the proper drivers installed, put the Buell plug end on my cable I bought from Mouser Elec., and I can't get the cable to talk to the ECM. I get a transmission time out. I've done various searches on here and google. I'm stuck....

Did you auto detect to get a com port by clicking on the plug icon?

I was getting the transmission timout at the bottom to, but it was communicating with the ecm. Click on the key icon and see if you get any info.

If it doesn't get a com port, try another usb port on your computer.

When you plugged in the bike did you....

Open EcmSpy

Click communications options. Click auto detect. It should detect what usb port your cable is plugged into. click ok.

turn key to on

neutral light should be on, f not then put it in neutral.

click the picture of the keys in EcmSpy.

All should be good.

If this doesn't work uninstall drivers, ecmspy and start over.

If you are running vista you shouldn't have to go to that website to get the drivers, it should automatically detect and install them as long as you have a internet connection where you and your bike are. I've done this numerous times so I know it works.

Be sure to have the ignition switched on. The red button on the bike. I don't think it will connect unless this button is in the run position.

The "Engine Stop" (kill) switch must be in the run position.

I've done all this over since first posting. Still nothing and my ass can't take this bucket anymore. I'm calling it quits for the night.

Are you sure your cable is made properly?
Have the pins in the proper location.

Also sometimes the driver for the cable doesn't work the first time and have to remove and then reinstall the driver.

Firebolt32.....

i had the same trouble of the cable not being recognized. my solution was to not download the driver. can any drivers you have downloaded. plug in the cable and when windows asks to look for drivers click yes.

i spent 2 hours trying to get the cable to work. took about 2 seconds when i tried it the other way

I know the cable is made properly, sad if it's not since I make different cables everyday at work. I'll trash the drivers I downloaded and try again tomorrow. I'm doing my 10k and was able to do everything but the TPS reset and fork oil today.

I'm going to try a different laptop when I get home tonight. I'm hoping that the cable didn't show up bad from Mouser.

I've got to try everything again. Ref meeting last night and have to ref a game tonight. Played with it a little last night and got a receive error NAK coming up on the bottom of the screen. I've seen that problem while doing a search here so I'll look into that as well.

You using the newest ECMspy? I haven't gotten that error since they updated to include the auto detect feature.

Do you need to do a TPS reset when ever you change the fuel map? Sorry to hijack this post, but it's about ecmspy and I didn't want to make a separate post.

I think you only need do a TPS reset if you change the eeprom, but I just want to be sure.

No prob moose...it's all relative. I'm running XP. On my laptop I couldn't get shit to work. On my girls laptop, I was able to get the cable installed properly with the right driver. I then got the NAK message. I'm going to blow everything out of her laptop and start over. I get pissed and aggravated too easy when things don't work the way they should.

Froggy...what version you talking about so I know if it's the one I've downloaded.

That's what I'm thinking as well...I received an email from the guy I traded my plastics with who saw this post. He is willing to mail me his cable to test. First I'm going to resolder the connections on the Buell plug end to see if maybe I have a cold solder joint. If still no luck, I'll have him send me the cable. If it is the cable I hope Mouser will refund me the money I spent.

I'm usually the one with problems getting things to work on the computer, but this was very easy. I downloaded the vcd drivers, installed both from the zip file. I initially couldn't get a com port, but I just moved the cable to another usb port on the computer and it found com port 6. I hope you figure it out.

Gonna get that cable sent to me. I started thinking that my ECM was fried because my trip meter, etc. reset but I remembered I killed the battery. None the less, I installed the driver snowscum posted, I reinstalled ecmspy to make sure it was the current program and also resoldered the cable. My device manager shows com3 being the port the driver was installed to. ECMSpy shows com3 being open but I still get a transmission time out error.

Bike runs smooth otherwise with new fluids and plugs. I just would like to tweek it a bit before I head to Daytona for Biketoberfest.

I thought biketoberfest was all ready in full swing? I left work at lunch the other day to look for spark plugs and there were motorcycles everywhere. They like to take hwy 100 south to get to Daytona.

I believe it is...but I'm not heading that way until Sat. the 18th. Don't want to lose money by not refing. But if anyone is heading that way Sat let's ride. Everyone I ride with is heading up the 17th.
