I've an 06 XB12Scg. At a recent Inside Pass I test rode the 09 (08?) XB12R. My question is, Why are the later model Thunderstorms so much more smoother running than my 06? What engine changes were made each year since 06? Is there something I can do to make my bike smoother running? I have the Race kit and ECMSpy. I have only modified my fuel maps to the Treadmark's Square Idle setting. I've a good strong idle at 1000 rpm, no hesitation at any engine speeds. I can even blip my throttle for downshifting. What do you guys suggest?

maybe not... i had an 08 that was anything but smooth running.... it gave me fits and nothing could be done..

ibought an 06 that had the ecm spy treatment and what a nice running bike it is.. so if the 09s run better than the 08s, that would be great, but its not what im hearing..
the 06 can be made to run really great...

Go back to stock. The stock pipe is the smoothest setup. Also since 08 they have had a ton of changes including a new fuel injection system.

It took me a lot of work to get my smoothness back after changing the pipe, but it can be done! : )

My '09 is running a lot smoother then my '08. I am still breaking it in, so hopefully it stays smooth.

As to why? Progress. I am guessing they got the bugs out of the DDFI3, which was introduced in '08.

Well once you change one thing you can't stop. After the Micron (technically before), I did K&N filter, open airbox, breather reroute, and American Sport Bike remap. Come give mine a ride, this is how it should be from the factory. : )

Froggy, I have the same setup as you except the race filter instead of the k&n. i don't see mine as being all that smooth especially in town. Did you do anything else.

Sorry for the hijack.

No that was about it. The American Sport Bike map was my most recent thing, and made most of the difference.

My 08 is also smoother than my 06. The 08 smoothes out just like my roadking. Both Buells are completely stock and the roadking has a stage 1. In fact the 06 buell vibrates about as bad as my 1977 xlch ,maybe worse.
