Ok enough joking. My question is should I go with the extended warranty on my 09 xb12scg or just the regular 2 year warranty? I always tough it was a bit of gambling since most people never use it but with the stories I'm reading on the 08 and 09 bikes I'm a bit nervous.

I just got my 08 and they told me I could extend it after the 2 years. Cost an extra 50. But if you decide to sell it..Naw never that!

The extended warranty can be transferred -- would be something that could add value if you decide to sell it down the road.

Personally I figure that if you finance the bike it might make sense to have a warranty for the term of your loan so you don't end up paying for a bike that you can't ride, kind of like GAP insurance.

Here is the thing. On average you will loose money buying warranties. They only make sense when you can't afford the consequences. Most bikes don't have major problems, but some do. The big unknown is if yours will be one of the ones that does.

So ask yourself, if the transmission blows up in 3 years, will you be able to afford to fix it or get a new bike? Will you be done with payments in 2 years? If so, skip the extended warranty.

If the bike has to run for X number of years or else you can't afford to ride, then you want the warranty.
