I'd say as long as you're not #1ing and not going #2, you are in Neutral!

If you're having issues shifting between 1st and 2nd, and sticking in N, then what you have to do is a couple of things.....

1) Shift hard, these bikes are notorious for not shifting with "soft feet".

2) Check your primary level, per manual instructions. If you need a pic, holler I can email one to you as to what the level should look like

3) Check for play in the primary chain. I can PDF you the details on that if you don't have the manual.

PS...get a user manual. Its the Bible for these bikes.

If you're having shithing problems every time you shit from #1 to #2, I'd suspect a faulty turd/ fart separator.

I gots me the same problem. It's definately not normal as there are other bikes that shift great.

Still have not found a fix. Tinkered with all the adjustment and still hasn't improved. I may open it up one of these days and look a lil closer. I wonder what can be replaced without having to split the case?

Shifting problems like finding neutral when stopped or hard shifting can also be caused by mechanical gremlins such as warped clutch plates even if the clutch & primary chain is properly adjusted & the oil levels correct and the right type.

If need be, the clutch can be pulled apart and the individual discs checked for flatness & thickness. You don't have to split cases to do this.

My bike has never not shifted to 2nd, but more times than not it is a rough transition. I had a lot of trouble finding neutral yesterday, so i'm adjusting the chain again (still not sure I found the tight spot). I did just chain the primary fluid and may have a tad to much.
