Here is the situation:
I have a chance to buy an 05 XB12R-MINUS the motor, wheels, forks, and possibly the frame. Everything else is there, everything! What would be a reasonable price to pay for what is left? Bike has never been down so everything is in great shape. Even has a few billet pegs and turn signals. Yes it was used for a chopper rebuild, and I must say it was built with class. Based the paint scheme off the black and gold of the R. I say Maybe the frame because he titled the chopper use the VIN from the motor. Could it be used as a race only frame?hmmm

Seriously, what is left? That is all the expensive bits on a XB.

Forks - 400
motor - 1800
wheels - 200 ea.
frame - 500 (does it have the swingarm?)

Thats roughly 2900 for just getting decent pieces. I'd take my money and buy a complete bike. (wrecked or not)

Done several basketcase builds . . . NEVER build a bike without a registered history on the frame. The red tape with kill the fun of building a bike.

A better choice found on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Motorcycles___05-Bu ell-XB12R-For-Repair-or-doner-for-Bobber-chop_W0QQ itemZ280247272189QQddnZMotorcyclesQQddiZ2283QQcmdZ ViewItem?hash=item280247272189&_trksid=p3756.m14.l 1318
More of a TLC project than a true 'basketcase!'

don't walk away from that deal....run!

what would you get? bodywork, an un-usable frame, pegs, a gage cluster (maybe)and...?

the motor, suspension, and wheels are the core of a good build and because of the demand
for choppers (which has tapered off a good bit, but it's still there) those exact parts
are in high demand. Racers are also usually in hot pursuit of those same parts.

How much??

You could use the frame as a "track day" bike but most race organizations will check the vin.

The front fairing bracket and tail will bring some coin but prolly not what you are paying for it.

soooo. What are you getting? The plastics and the fan?

That's a terrible idea. Basketcases are always a pain and almost never worth it in the end. Believe me. I know from experience.

If you're not getting the frame you're not getting the title. You're just getting random scrap parts. Don't waste your time. Buell's are cool but they aren't that cool. LOL

I guess what I failed to say is that my 9 has had a heart transplant, currently is a 12S. I would like to buy these parts to have the ability to convert from either or. It does have the swingarm, shock, wiring harness, Basically, picture a black/amber 12 r without the motor, wheels, and forks. Everything that would be left, is there, including keys. I am not interested in a rebuild, not at this point anyway. That would have to start with a clean titled frame no doubt.
I can get it @ what I believe is a good buy, but I also liked to be very informed going into purchase. Appreciate any advice you all have given or will give.

Ok, based on your previous post I thought you were looking at this as a possible track
bike build kit. For that....well I already gave my opinion.

If you can get it for about half the list price of the plastics and brace or less, (because
that is what you are really after) then it could be a good deal. Do not factor in the value
of the parts you don't want/need. Even if you sell them there is no guarantee on what you
will get for them, and packing/shipping is a pain.

If it meets those criteria then go for it.
