Since new, my exhaust has "popped" when decelerating. It will happen when its hot/cold, at any rpm range from 2000 up. I've also noticed the headers got blue very fast. They blued up by the motor first, within 150 miles. The rear cyllander header is now "blueing" across the whole header now. Bike has about 450 miles on it. When it "pops" its not loud or obnoxious, but its noticable. EVERYTHING is stock on the bike. Ideas, suggestions? Is this normal?

I'm none to familiar with the '08's, but it's worth visiting a dealer and seeing what the AFV is. It sounds like it's running really rich and getting some fuel after-burn in the header. It could be a loose plug-wire/semidead spark plug on the rear cylinder as well.

It's got a warranty, use it!

the 08s have a few issues, mine stumbles at low speed... im hoping by this summer that someone has an aftermarket cure... like techlusion or something...my streetrod did the exact same thing, with no factory cure.. i put a screamin beagle race tuner on it an it was a different bike..

There's no issue with the headers turnig blue/purple. This is common, as the extreme heat will cause this. Mine has done the same. As for the decel popping with the stock can, I've only heard this to be common with an aftermarket exhaust. You might want to bring it in. My stock can never popped, only when I installed a Drummer.

All pipes will pop, just that the stock pipe muffles it to the point that its not really noticeable. It is possible your AFV is out of wack, so have the dealer check it or get a ECMspy cable and check it yourself : )

My '07 can pop but I have to load the throttle -- do it on purpose -- so that sounds out of character for an XB, even if it is an '08.

'07 with a race can and k&n. Just about 7k on it. Pops like mad...I kinda like it though. Headers are still clean as a whistle.

You should make sure your plugs are gapped correctly my bike pings up to .036 and gurgells and popps over .038 I found that .037 works best for me but each bike is different

Are people saying that a cause of the pipes going blue is sprayed fuel that isnt being burned in the cylinder, so it makes the headers hotter then S*** and turns them blue?
Mine are blue for a good foot down the pipe.
I might need to get something checked!

Thanks,
Alex

I let my front pipe blue all the way down to the collector. I polish the rear one out. With the front Blued it matches the color of the bike better..haha

Been popping decel and blued for over 18k now. My bike still runs like a raped ape!

Sounds like an air leak in the header or at the join to the silencer somewhere causing reversion.

Thanks for the input, guys. I figured the blueing was normal, and not the popping. I'll check for leaks in the header or silencer tonight. I'm hoping its not a fueling ecm problem. I dont trust my local HD dealership at all! They sold me the bike with no fuel, a dead battery, and two different suspension settings in the front forks.. Not good.
I'll get ecm spy going before they ever touch it again. Thanks again

Yeah, sgthigg.
Kind of a small, boring town when the "tourists" aren't here to bother. I'm right on 41 and daniels.
Small world... According to your profile, yes it damn well is. I got a brother in law in japan teaching english right where youre at now!.
