My clutch cable broke today and I need to order one. Nobody in the twin cities area has one. Im planning on buying the crossroads clip on style bars in the next month or so and was wondering if the R model cable might be able to be used. Are they shorter? If so how much? I dont want to wait 7-10 day to ride again.  | ||

I believe the R cable is to short. It won't work with the Crossroads bars. You could try and match the stock cable measurement to a Barnett cable and find it elsewhere. http://www.barnettclutches.com/products/cables.asp x | ||

I ordered one from the dealer.  I cant believe I have to park it that long. 8400 miles seems a little premature. | ||

My cable just broke ,had to put it in the shop while they order one.I have crossroads bars and Im sure the bend in the cable was a big factor,Iv seen some posts on an R cable being routed different , its shorter and has a metal piece to help with the bend.some also cut a hole to route the clutch through the face.Im thinking of doing that if it brakes again.Ill try to keep the cable greased this time. | ||

When I made my bars, I drilled a hole above the ignition. It's important to make sure the cable has no tight bends and that it gets lubed. | ||

Just a quick question... How do you go about greasing the cable? I have a 05 9R. Thanks... I dont want this trouble down the road, so I thought I would do preventative maintenance. | ||

If it broke on the end get a propane torch and reattach the end. Kind of old school, but it will get to by for a while. I'd buy the wire in the old days, cut it and put the ends on. I've always preferred molydindium sulfide (SP)for cable lube. there is probably better stuff today. But it makes parts slide easy and doesn't attract dirt. Makes an M14 not jam either.  | ||

They make a tool that fits on and attaches to a spray can tube or you could make a funnel and tape it on. kind of messy though. | ||

I tried cable ties and even welding a knob on the end of the cable. all my attempts broke again. I dont have a lot to work with now. I ended up overnighting one from a dealer in Iowa. It cost an extra $50 bucks but I will save that in fuel not driving my dually everywhere. |
