history; i bought my bike in february from a guy that didnt really, lets just say "know too much about buells" anyways, when i bought my bike, it had a rear brake lever (for stunting) right underneath the clutch. it costs me about $250 to get it removed, which i really wanted to do.

anyways heres the issue, this guy just gutted the muffle, it drones, but i kinda sorta like it. it just feels like my bike is underpowered, ive heard stories of people loosng power because of exhaust setup, is this true? Another issue i am having is that the bike will not go up on one wheel, ive read posts of guys on badweb up to 235 lbs. getting there xb9's on one wheel by power wheeling... guys, i dont even weigh 130 lbs. and my bike will not do this... i dont think im doing it wrong because i get on my pap's 06 FZ1 and i get tht bitch up one one wheel without any trouble...

another issue im having is that my bike dosnt likfe to go into second when i shift hard, and if it does successfully go into second. When i downshift to break for a light or anything, its as if my clutch cable is not even pulled in at all and it makes a ccccccccccccccccccccccrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr sound.

so my solution to **hopefully** fic my problem

i will be purchasing the following components to help

ecmspy, calbe in the mail
carbon fiber jardine, ordering tonight
homemade airbox delete
2006+ stock clutch spring and clutch cable
free spirits "soft clutch"

i really dont mind dropping all my money on this stuff, i absolutly love my bike, and i want to get the most out of it...

if you have any questions about my ranting, or comments i would LOVE some advice/help of any kind.

Thanks a bunch for reading this long post

Bruce

Might want to check your inner primary lip where the clutch cable attaches to the lever, had a couple of them lips break... new primary needed.. worth to haul the outer clutch inspection cover off and have a peek..

You may be expecting a bit much. Your XB9 makes 75 rwhp on a good day, compared to 130 rwhp on an FZ1.

I also have a 2003 XB9.

Try running it to 4500-5000 rpm, chop the throttle, and hit it when the suspension is unloading. There is plenty of power to power wheelie it at sea level.

I live at 6000 feet in Colorado. I have to run it to 4500 or 5000 rpm, feather the clutch and run the engine to redline, then let the clutch out fast while giving full throttle. It sucks.

Primary need to be adjusted? Don't know, just throwing it out there.

<---- Fat kid. 240 lbs. No problems with the "power wheelie".

The gutted muffler will make a huge difference. The Jardine is a better choice.

yeah, the gutted-out muffler would only make things louder. some back pressure is needed to make things run right. it's like Eric and them did some kind of design/research goin' on or something.

here ya go, BROTHA
about the "ccccccccccccccccccccccrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr sound". my guess is the first gear doesn't have a synchro, or it is just as worn-out as mine is. ('03, with 15k) you never know how bad it could have been treated, stunting and all. try shifting directly from second to first, no dead time in between to avoid the sound effects.
mine also 'jumps' when you snick it into first when at idle. primary and clutch tuned to verbatim compliance in accordance with the infallible service manual.

you should have 1/8 inch slack at the clutch cable ferrule when released. no tension at all! there should be (stock) very small contact zone, and the rest just free pull on the lever.
and it will only be too hard to pull if your a ninny..... not that i'm saying you're a ninny or any thing

as far as the primary chain, it should have 1/2 inch play on the top, 3/8 inch cold. don't go too tight or you'll wear away the adjuster shoe, too loose, and you'll hear it clank on the primary casing over all the clamor of your beastly v-twin rumbling away.

don't forget a TPS reset (no associated "cover sheets", there Bill Lumberg)
hope this helps you out some. have fun with all the new parts for your new toy, and welcome to the addiction

You can try something similar to this.
Gain a little back pressure so your bike can perform better. I would try something more like a Flow Master design though, not flat plates like in the video. I would suggest a Drummer or Spec Ops pipe but I don't think you can use your pipe as a trade in. Good Luck

"my guess is the first gear doesn't have a synchro"

No synchro's period. That's car stuff.

It sounds like a bent shift fork, worn shift drum, or loose/bent shift linkage.

The shifter issues you can check by pulling the primary cover and primary drive (Disconnect the battery, please). The rest involves splitting cases.

Sometimes, fat guys like me can pop a wheelie easier, due to a higher, more rearward center of gravity.

It could be a slipping clutch. If the clutch is slipping, it won't shift well, and won't wheelie well, either (And wheelies should not be an issue on that bike). If you shift hard @ full throttle, does the motor continue to rev, or does the RPM drop with the shift? At high speed, does the clutch begin to slip if you pull it and release it briefly?

The stunt-goodies point to either scenario. A new clutch/proper clutch adjustment is cheaper and easier than splitting cases, and would be a good place to start if you have ANY reason to suspect a clutch.

The 9S should run fine as it comes out of the factory, all this useless stuff can't help at all, IMHO.

On the Xb9 I've got all that required is first gear, roll the throttle open let the clutch out at about 3K rpm and it's up. I am no lightweight either, no problem with a wheelie here. These engines make tons of torque down low unlike an inline multi - so use the torque Luke!!!
