hey anyone seen this? WTF!!!!! my ecm harness has been rubbed raw in 2 spots from the bottom of the seat pan. i didn't expect this one.

yeah thats what i put on when i noticed it as a band aid....but that aside its not very cool to find. this should be covered under warranty which brings me to my next dilema letting the dealer touch my bike.

mine rubbed right through the wiring harness going under the negative battery terminal. I just stuck a small peice of foam between it about 14000 miles ago. been fine ever since.

yup, same here except rubbed from shock reservoir. snagged in time and shrink-wrapped. also moved my reservoir back a tad so it wasn't making contact anymore.

rubbed wires will be my life-long dilemma with this bike.. .

I have seen several of my wires chaffing on things, forward plug wire almost all the way through, cylinder head temp, O2 sensor and the WORST offender is the IDLE control, It chaffed past the cover into the core...teflon spiral wrap is great stuff, Buell Engineering should have thought of it BEFORE we had to! Oh well. I STILL Love my bike and Respect the engineering behind it, small stuff...

Yup, Mine got into the O2 sensor wire and shorted out.

It stopped me on the way home with a brand new bike...TWICE! They had to come and get me off the side of the road both times on the day I picked it up.

I am keeping a close eye on ALL the wiring on this bike.

I discovered a number of places on my bike where wires were beginning to rub through the insulation in the first year I had it so I rerouted a thing or two, wrapped a few others, and prayed over it, and everything seems fine now.

*newsflash* these bikes tend to shake a bit. It's the price we pay for being the coolest kids on the block.

I'll add my problem to this list. I currently have an automatic kill switch when I turn the handlebars to the right. It appears to be a short of some sort in the main bundle where it passes around the steering stem. It only happens turning right and it is variable if you mess with the harness. Sometimes only half way, sometimes have to go full lock. I know it is the hot wire coming from the ign. relay before it connects with the right bar harness. I think it is part of the last 8 inches or so where the main harness comes out of the frame. I'll fix it one day soon. Its already cost me a foot peg.

After reading about it here, I carefully inspected the wiring, and adjusted/wrapped any suspicious spots.

Never a problem after that.

Rootin- Check the wiring harness near the horn behind the flyscreen. Mine did the same thing, it only took me about 15 fuses to find it-fortunately no pegs were harmed in my troubleshooting.

Good heads up. I put a different seat on and after seeing this post I checked. I found a few spots rubbing bad and wrapped and trimmed away some of the ribbing on the underside of the seat. Thanks!
