I just received my drummer and installed it. I decided to take a run down the street with out the race ecm on yet and I rode less than a mile. Came back shut her off and she was really hot. And I mean hot. Hot enought to start to bubble the paint underneath my right side scoop from R Crins. My first question is has anyone had any problems with the paint on the scoop from him. My second question is if anyone is running the drummer with out the race ecm in. And if they are are they having any heat issues. I'm installing my race ecm tomorrow but I'm just worried now that I might of been running so lean that the heat might have done some damage. And it also really smelled like gas almost like it was running a little off. Is there a big danger with running it without the new ecm in for the amount of time i did. | ||

Sounds bizarre - I know Kevin at K-Fab has said that you don't need to run the race ecm with just the addition of the pipe - that's what he told me for a customer's CityX. I believe his own personal race bike is running the stock ecm - no way you could have done any serious damage driving just a mile. The bike wouldn't have gotten anywheres near full operating temp in that short of time or distance. Install the race ecm and see what happens but maybe the problem lies elseswhere and it is just a coincidence that it occured at the same time as the pipe install. | ||

It may have run a bit lean. If you ran the bike less than a mile, the bike didn't have any time to learn the new pipe. Not enough time to damage the engine, I'm pretty sure. Too bad about the scoop. It's plastic? It's less than an inch away from the hottest part of the exhaust header? If that's true, I'm surprised more haven't blistered. | ||

I have nearly 9k miles on my Original Drummer with a stock ECM and air filter. As soon as I finished installing it I followed the advice of riding a long distance at around 3k RPM to let the ECM think... I still like to do that every now and then as I don't see it doing any harm.. any way, I have not had any heat issues. I've actually reduced my heat. The weirdest thing was hearing my fan shut off on me while sitting at red lights during my first week. This never happened before installing the Drummer and it was just shocking to have it shut off on me. | ||

less back pressure equals more heat being expelled through the exhaust, which reduces the overall heat soak of the engine. And Fan operation will become less. I can't wait to get a drummer. why did I choose to wait till winter for it | ||

I hope it's just a coincidence. I'm going to take it out tonight and test it out again. And also try to get a tps reset done. Maybe the scoop was cooking before I ever looked and I just happened to see it while I was down there checking the muffler.I'm just a little paranoid right now. I wonder what kind of heat spray on bed liner can handle. I might sand it down and spray it over with that. I'll post what I find out. | ||

Plus if you guys are saying that you are using the stock ecm with now worries, then i'm not going to worry about it too much. I'll just keep a close eye on it. |
