Help, we got a problem. Tonight Damnut's (Jim) XB12 blew its front spark plug out of the head. The head threads are gone! we can literally drop a new plug into the hole. None of the local auto parts stores have a "time-sert" or a "heli-coil" plug repair kit for a 12mm plug. What we do have is a donor head with perfect threads from Hammer71's totalled XB. What we need is a head gasket and rockerbox gaskets to do the swap. There is no Buell dealer in town, but there is a harley dealer. Does anyone know if there is a sportster head gasket that will work? Perhaps the late 2006/2007 rubbermounted sportster engine uses the same gaskets? Jim's engine is in my garage. it is already rolled down out of the chassis. We just need the gasket desperately. Can anybody get us the gaskets on a sunday, or know if there is a compatible harley gasket? Thanks, Fritz |

This has to tug at your heart strings:
That's Jim's bike. He's 200 miles from home, stripping his firebolt down for engine removal on the side of the road. |

If I was in a jam I would find a larger spark plug and tap the hole to the size of the larger plug. |

If I was in a jam I would find a larger spark plug and tap the hole to the size of the larger plug. I'm open to that suggestion however, that means that we now need a 14 mm plug thread tap on a Sunday. We'll also need to know the correct number for a 14 mm spark plug that will work in a Buell(resistor type, electrode reach, heat range, etc). Anyone have such a thing/ info? |

Saintly- Loctite makes a thread repair compound (Loctite Form-a-thread) that would be worth trying if you can find it. It's supposed to be capable of supporting 128 ft-lbs; I'd think it would hold a spark plug fine. Here are a couple of on-line listings for the stuff: http://store.summitracing.com/egnsearch.asp?N=4010 68+317608+115&autoview=sku http://www.acehardwaresuperstore.com/permatex-loct ite-form-a-thread-p-70235.html?ref=42 |

this may seem wierd but i know im not the only one to do this.....in motorcross when in desperate need of gaskets myself and many others will often opt for the cardboard homemade gasket not a perm. fix but does what it has to just a suggestion give me a ring if i can help in any way. 603-234-0272 |

Harley Evolution spark plug should work well. You may have to shim it though cause it maybe too long. But the tap? try your local auto parts store. Tool Depot or Harbor Freight Tools near by? Most places around here are open sundays til atleast 4.m. Harbor Freight stays open til 6.m. Hope this is helpful. |

just reuse the old gaskets. It is only to get you home. Assuming you did not destroy them in the process. |
