I have no idea how this happened but the other day I noticed a crack underneath one of the two bolts up near the handlebars. It almost looks like someone tightened the bolt to tight which cracked the plastic underneath it. The problem is the last time someone might have touched those bolts was weeks ago when I had the 1000 mile service. I guess it's possible a rock hit it or something but I am wondering if anyone might night if a new air box cover would be covered under warranty. My guess is no ... but I crossing my fingers that it may be.

If they did the service work, I would at least ask. I would be nice and let them see what you noticed and request that they replace the airbox cover under warranty.

They don't have to, but it would be nice if they did.

that is know to happen on the transparent body work, for 06 they made a change and use a little metal bushing for the bolt to tighten down on first before the airbox. It is possible that the dealer lost/forgot to put the bushing back it. I would take it back and get a new cover under warranty.

This happened on my '06 Valencia Orange cover.
Crazed around one of the front mounting bolts, and the plastic splintered.
My bolts had a collar on them (no separate bushing) so that you couldn't over-tighten them, but it still happened!
I had the plastic washers; I believe they now come with rubber washers.
Mine was replaced under warranty, I believe it is a known 'fault'.
You should have no problems getting it replaced.

This is all great news! I will take it in to my dealer and show them, hopefully I have no problems getting it replaced.

Took in in today. They said they are going to try and get it covered under warranty, whatever that means for me.
