Bring both flaps through then ease up one side so the bottom flap passes through and the top flap stays above, then work the rest of the bottom flap down starting at one point and going around the seal.

I just don't even bother trying to spread the two lips apart - just screw the base down on top of the lips as if it were a one-sided seal. Seals well enough to prevent sucking in dirt/sand and really REALLY simplifies putting it back together.

I have mine apart about once a month.

Put a little soap on the edge of the top lip. It'll slip right on with no effort.

Do as Davo says. This only takes a minute. I have done it a half a dozen times over the last few months checking and replacing spark plugs.

Heck took my Uly's airbox apart to install the '07 airbox cover and Odie's heat blanket and the rubber seal was not installed properly. Basically was sitting above the base plate. To top it off the top right torx screw was already cross threaded in the frame so when I was removing it the head snapped off. Cross threaded from the factory by the way.

Wow I cant believe how hard of a time a lot of people have with these (I know the first few times I did it I thought what a PITA). I have started working on these bikes for a dealership and have come up with a few tricks with items such as this.

The easiest way for me is to take a solution of soap/water and spray it in between the upper and lower portion of the seal. Then with a pick that has about a 160-170 degree shape just put it between the two seals and pull up while going along the circumference of the seal. Takes all of 5 seconds. HTH
