saw them on ebay and wondered if anyone has tested / tried these as summer jackets??

seem to have good design and armour but some reviews said they were a bit crap... anyone who's worn one, your comments are appreciated!

I have the hero jacket, it has perforated leather in the underarm panels. I have experienced no problems since wearing it and I feel good and not hot when riding the bike in spite of 100+ degree days here in the south.

I purchased and wear the Pursuit Jacket for Summer use, It has removable and CE approved armour and its perforated leather which does let a lot of air flow for cooling once You remove the zip out liner. The sleeves on this jacket do zip off however I would never wear it sleeveless when riding. I give the jacket a thumbs up and am happy with it. Sure beats wearing a T-shirt for protection.

I've got the Icon "Merc" textile jacket. I'd say its good value, meaning a decent jacket for the money ~$100

Its not a "mesh" jacket, but cordura with breathable areas under the arms. If you open up the cuffs and vents you get a nice draft through the jacket.

The armor is C.E. approved, when you look at it, pieces are plastic shaped and have a thick layer of dense rubber/foam, similar to knox in a way. My only complaint is that the armor pockets are too roomy, I find the armor in the shoulders don't alsways cup and stay on my shoulders. But I'm am a skinny dude.

The arm and shoulder pads are CE approved the back pad isn't. All are easily removable (just velcroed in). The proper name should be the Daytona Hero.

I have a TiMax mesh jacket, and it's nice and cool in the summer. I crashed in it last year, and the jacket held up nicely. It stayed in one piece, and I did too. I didn't even get cut (just scraped), but that will happen with one piece leathers also. After cleaning the jacket up, it looks like new.

Not sure which ICON you are talking about, but I have the ICON motorhead. It is heavy as can be, but I do feel safe and secure. It's a bit too much on hot summer days, but the perforated leather keeps you cool when moving along. Great quality! Alpine Superstars is just not worth the money...

"Alpine Stars is just not worth the money..."

Me no get! I paid $300 for my Alpine Stars leather jacket. While shopping for it, the Icons were $400-$600 with goofy designs on it...

im a bit of a jacket nut...ive got a lot of them....i just sold a nexx scorpion, i have a moto gp curcuit, a hein tribal, a gp star speed mary tex,an alpinestar tex,an old rocket ballistic, and an icon motorhead...there are a few others ive sold over the last year....i bought my 13 y/o daughter a icon team merc, i wouldnt put my kid in crap. icon makes nice stuff, my motorhead is heavy and well armoured. their gloves seem to fall apart sometimes but everything else is top quality imo.....if you can find a good deal in icon stuff jump on it....if ur lookin for summer gear the perforated one looks like a good jacket i know my nexx was hot as hell in the summer and the motorhead was right behind that....the hooligan or any of icons other tex jackets would prob fit the bill nicely.

i have a daytona retro. i slid it on a roughened sidewalk path at 38mph off of my mountianbike (a whole different story, someone moved a traffic speed display around to face the bottom of a new bike path hill) and it worked great. The sandpaper concrete ripped through my jeans like butter, but the jacket did exactly what it was supposed to. i love it. (hate the rash on my knee)
heavy, yes, but unzip the vents and it flows more. I have had to wear it above 90 degrees this spring and it was hot when stopped, but not bad when moving.
Not bad,,, ok. Maybe that's not a ringing endorsement.

unless u jump up into the really expensive range like vanson , bates, dianese, most jackets are about the same. im sure this will set off a flame fest but its more about style as anything else most of my jackets are similar in armour....i have put hard armour in one and switch on occasion when i think i might be riding hard...its always a good idea to try something on before u go ebay it u need to feel it and see how it fits i have an ebay store and have owned a lot of jackets...u can find a nice nexx for about 250$ if u keep on top of the jacket section section for a week or so u can finda good deal i paid 20$ for my alpinestar tex snaged a nice teknic for 50$ got my moto gp for 30$ i got my motorhead for 150$ ...but it really helps if u know what u want and know how it fits www.motorcyclecloseouts.com has a great closeouts section so does dennis kirk and www.ridegear.com agv makes nice stuff.

Vanson, only Vanson - have also crash tested and it was the only thing that kept me from having some broken ribs, and possibly a broken arm. Their jackets are heavy and pricy but that all goes away when you have a visit with the pavement.
