OK, so here is my problem. After the Drummer and ECM install, I took the bike to the dealer for the TPS reset. He had the bike hooked up to the Digital Technician. He noticed that the idle was all over the place, 800-1200rpm. The RPM would not stay stable. He mentioned that it was more than likely an intake leak. I rode the bike home and was going to look into it. On the ride home the idle was erratic and would backfire through exhaust. The backfiring was more like a popping sound. Nevertheless, it was a backfiring. That night, it stalled through a low speed corner. So, I bought new intake seals for the throttle body and a new velocity stack. I replaced all of the rubber components in the intake system. Went for a ride today after the work was done, still doing the same thing.

Whats the deal? Does it need another TPS reset? Is a sensor bad?

Prior to the ECM and Drummer mods, I never noticed and of this.

Also, replaced the plugs and wires as well.

Oh, and make sure you re-secure the cables with a zip tie or something so that they can't vibrate relative to the throttle body/engine.

M1 - thanks for the insight. I will look at the shop manual and do the adjustment.

Also, how would your bike run w/a bad 02 sensor?

Well... Maybe like that... It would depend on exactly what is wrong with the O2. Whether it was just off a little in the voltage it's reporting or if the wire was broken completely or something.

How is the dealership where the tps was done? Do you trust them?...

I think since the bike ran good before the ecm swap. The tps is more likely not reset properly. If it isnt reset properly you will have problems like the one described.

Also do the 10 minute / 10 mile run at 3500 rpms to let the AFV settle itself.

I think I trust the dealer. I was there in front of the wrench when he did it. It made sense and it seemed right.

However, I went to the garage to f**k with the throttle cables. Here is what I found. The idle adjustment has to be bottomed out to get to 1150RPM (all of the way turned in with the spring fully compressed). The cable adjustment seemed weird. It didn't make sense when I read the manual. I played with the cables but couldn't get the cam at the throttle body to move by tightining or loosening the adjustment at the throttle control.

Would this seem like a bad throttle cable(s)? Is that why the idle adjustment is bottomed out to get 1150RPM.

The only reason I asked about the 02 sensor is I ran the bike for a day or two with the Drummer and new ECM w/o the TPS reset. I know that can create a lean spot. I thought maybe I might have burnt the 02 sensor in that day or two.

I think I have the 10/10 3500RPM run taken care of. But I will do it againg tomorrow just to make sure.

If it ran fine before the ECM swap I'll bet the TPS was not reset correctly.

Ah, I missed that... Yes, go for the TPS. Somehow I read that he had these symptoms before the ECM swap. Throttle cable adjustment is one of the things listed for those symptoms in the service manual though. Mine does that too if I don't have the cables adjusted JUST right. Be absolutely SURE to set the idle with a HOT bike. I run my idle at around 900 though (yeah, I know...).

yep definetly the tps.
Here is what happend to your bike, the guy at the dealer ship reset your tps, without zeroing the throttlebody first.

Harley owners need chrome and Buell owners only need a VDSTS! You can reset the TPS in about 2 minutes and it is very cool to follow everything that is going on inside the bike. See and clear trouble codes. Monitor engine temps, air temps, spark timing, rpm, speed, and TPS. It also does tests on the fuel pump, injectors and coils. If I was E.B. I would have given it to you with the Bike.

Put the stock ECM back on and if the problem goes away. You know what the problem is,the race ECM with a bad TPS reset,giterdone
