watching Speed channel today FIM MotoGP. Saw a Suzuki commercial about their new GSX-R750. take a look at the link and look at the bottom of the bike. http://www.suzukicycles.com/Products/GSXR750K6/Photos/Default.aspx seems that Buell has something that the Japanese want on their bikes as well. | ||

That 750 is a sweet bike. I know two riders who prefer the GSXR750 over the 1000 for the local twisties. Great balance and power. Suzuki has totally vanquished every 750 sportbike from the marketplace. No manufacturer even bothers to field a competitor against it. | ||

Not trying to argue, just I thought that most manufacturers stopped producing 750's because of the cutback of the racing classes. Just what I thought. | ||

That's what I understood to Brine, yet Suzuki were bold enough to recognize the potential of selling a 750cc superbike for street use and track day fun, and it seems to have paid off for them judging by what those who've ridden the GSXR 750 say. Rocket | ||

Kawasaki's ninja 650 has one too.  I like those. I think one of those 650s wuld be great for general purpose/commuting/fun. | ||

The japanese may actually be calling it a catalytic converter as most of the innards serve that purpose. A large cross section would reduce the back pressure of the catalyst. | ||

A patent covers intent of use and specific engineering of the piece. If they call it a resonator, catalytic converter etc. they can get around it (maybe) If their intent is not "mass centralization" and is not built the same way then they can get around it (maybe) So much is up to interpretation that patent lawyers are almost never bored and lacking work. | ||

Perhaps the patent refers to the organ-pipe deal inside the muffler? | ||

" You need to look back further if you're thinking of high profile AMA racing in the US. The 750 has been racing here since the mid-80's. As far as now... there are lots of venues to race a GSXR750. Ever been to a club race and watched the 750 Superstock class? It's essentially a one bike class. | ||

The Buell "Patents" commercial specifically states "underslung exhaust" as being the patent Don't confuse marketing ploys with patent law. Hell, the Buell web site used to say the XB line had ram air.  | ||

It does Glitch, right about the time it hits 158 mph  Every time somebody looks at the speedometer and asks "will it really go 160?", I answer "yes, if I push it out of an airplane". I guess if I pushed it out of an airplane running, and put a fin on the back to keep her nose down, it would have ram air as well | ||

KTM will be doing an even more similar exhaust on their new street bike for 2008. This month's Motor Cyclist mag showed it. | ||

Only custom one-offs have ztl style brakes as far as I know. | ||

i thought i saw like a moto guzi with them, but that might have been a prototype, one of arlen nesses bikes had dual perimeter brakes front and rear, the banana one he had on the biker build off. that one on the gsxr looks hokey, looks all stamped out and then has that funny tip on it. i havent see any around, for a 2006 there should be a ton of them on the road. | ||

Yamaha had a rim mounted brake on their 250GP bike long before Buell even existed. I think you will find Buell has the patent on the mounting system used which serves as a best fit floating setup so the rim can flex without warping the disc. I can;t see how placement of a conventional exhaust could ever warrant a patent. That would be as silly as Ducati having a patent for under the tail. | ||
