I'm riding to work this morning and I decide to shift hard without using the clutch and I get no shift instead I look down and I've just snapped the little bolt that connects the linkage to the shifter. Plus I have to get to bike school this friday. What the hay...

Buell sure won't let you down. . . parts are readily available.

Sounds like something, if you had to, you could "jury rig" to get to school. Heck, if you are going to bike school...it could be a class project!

I'm going to have to ride home on 2nd gear then i'll figure something out. The broken end has to be drilled out. I guess I was just surprised it broke off. I'm not in a racing environment or anything.

It's either a 10-24 or a 10-32 bolt that broke. You can find those everywhere from
walmart to your local hardware store.

Isham,
Is it possible for you to get someone around your neck of the woods with a welder? He could perhaps weld a nut/something to the end of the extractor,You know place a nut there and weld in the middle hole to the extractor and then remove it that way with the nut....
This of course I wd. say IF all else fails ... and you got a good welder Good Luck.

I never used a clutchless gear change on my XB9R, the bike always objected to that big time! Does anyone else go clutchless?

I can on my 06 XB12R, it actually goes in very easy. I don't make a habit of doing it but sometimes when i put my foot under the shifter it will up shift before i pull the clutch in.

TO shift without the clutch you need to unload the transmission by rolling off the throttle a little bit.
the easiest way is to put a little pressure up on the shifter to "pre-load" it. then roll off slightly and
you'll feel it when the transmission is ready to change gears. Hard to explain, it's all about feel.

The other option is to run an ignition or fuel interrupt, like my translogic does.

On my RZ, I wired a momentary (Spring loaded) switch from Radio Shack into my kill switch, so I can shift with that.
It's almost like an automatic transmission.

Lucky for you 2 weeks after I bought my Buell last summer someone gets on my bike and tries to "kick start it" and snapped the bolt off so I know exactly what your talking about. The screw that your trying to take out can't really be drilled out because its hardened and the rest of the bracket thing is pretty soft. What I ended up doing was using a dremel cutting disc and dremeling a notch in the side of the bracket next to the hardened screw. It was a pain but it worked after messing with it a little. Hope that helps! Also call harley for the part now, I had to order mine and it took like a week and a half or something to get.
