Ha so get this. I ordered a Ss 2-3 months ago. Received it on the 4th... after almost 400 miles I decode the VIN to discover I received an S, not an Ss; which I specified. I honestly couldn't tell the difference, and don't intend to make any 2-up rides, nor do I get cramped on 2+hr rides. But that isn't the principle,I paid 12grand for an Ss and received an S. I have yet to notify the dealer, which isn't open (0630). And was wondering if you guys would think it "selfish" to b*tch-n-moan about receiving the incorrect model, or settle with what I have. Ultimately the decision rests with my wife, who regulates my disputes for me.

I wasn't sure if it was the correct model because the clamps and grater only say 12S... so I brought it up to her and she told me that I seemed happy with it. I explained the "principle of the matter" and she said do what makes me happy (female version of "yes dear"). I love my wife, same woman that offered to buy the bike for me last summer!

Just let me know your thoughts.

Best Case Scenerio- you would have a comparison between the two bikes (s vs Ss).

Worst Case Scenerio- I would be riding a S which I thought was an Ss till a few minutes ago (had a suspicion the entire time riding).

i havea 12 s and i went and sat on a 12ss and it felt huge. Have you ever sat on both?
what is you reason for wanting a long?

the long says long on it. and the seat is way different. i would take it back and go some where else.

Originally I never sat on an S, but I had on an Ss. The Ss felt comfortable to me ( without having the S to compare it to). The Regular Lightning fits me fine (5'11), just ticks me off that the dealer screwed up so badly.
I wouldn't have minded if they gave me a completely different bike, preferably exotic. So I could sell it and afford a firebolt as well as a lightning.
I haven't even adjusted the suspension yet... just put almost 400miles on it, no mods.

Funny this is I am forward deployed overseas so I don't have a variety of dealers to go to... only one in fact. Maybe I'll call the manager of the sales guy and tell him the error and request free stuff.

Here is the situation as of now:
I am more than happy with the S
I am not happy with the sales guy
I would be happy keeping the S
I would be even happier with the S and a ton of free stuff for their HUGE ERROR

That doesn't sound like something I'd let go under the bridge. I don't know how much more an Ss is compared to a regular S, but 12 grand for a regular S model is down right ridiculous! I'd say they owe you a whole bunch of 'Goodies'.

On a similar note, my father bought a Mazda Miata twin turbo. The day he bought, he actually test drove 2 models, both identical in every aspect except for rims. He bought one, the salesman logged the V.I.N number of the other vehicle down on his paper work. Long story short: my father got an 8,000 mile test drive in a new Miata, then after 4 months got a brand new Miata for nothing more!!
Yea, I would check into it!!


ps-what gave away the fact that it is an S model and not an Ss? I know the long would say it on the bike, but what in the vin number did you track?

Both models carry a MSRP of $10,495.

What does the bill of sale say? If it says "XB12S" you are screwed because you signed the paperwork. Well probably anyway. I'm not a lawyer. Are you in the service? The AG would know.

In the owners manual it breaks down the VIN positions, there are 9 of them. To assure yourself of what you have if you are not sure is the 8th position (6th from end)

My original financing paperwork says..XBSS
the paperwork that I had to sign to ride away with it says XBS.

The financing paperwork is my order paper for the bike, saying the model, quoted price, milquote price,downpayment, ect.

I am more than happy with the XBS, but I am definately going to raise a few questions and see if I can get the race kits out of the dealer for their mistake and my stress/time. How sweet would that be!
If they say they can't then I'll put up a fight and go to the overseas AAFES Representative, and the Legal Office.

If they just want to trade S for SS I am not dismounting the S until I am in arms reach of the SS. Never will they cut my riding time! I had to wait around 2 months for this bike to arrive overseas!!!!!!. .. just to be given the wrong model? INCOMPETENT! But I do like the wrong model! ha

I thought the Ss said "Ss" somewhere on it, but I wasn't sure; plus I was just so excited to get it finally that I wasn't really concerned. Now that I am home though, realizing that the dealer just shafted me (maybe an accident - but i don't care, a shaft is a shaft) I am a little disgruntled.
I was wondering why the front was always pawing at the air, according to riders the Ss requires a little more to do it. I only weigh 140-150, so the S will lift without me even trying.

Hey Skype, lighten up. It's easy enough to not realize which is which. I had to look at an Ss and an S side by side at a dealership to see the differences. If I were getting my first Buell, and there was nothing nearby to compare it it would be real easy to make the same mistake.
Brine, you're in a win/win situation. You enjoy the bike you've got; so if all else fails, you'll be stuck riding around with that silly grin on your face. If the dealer does the right thing, you'll get some extra perks for his screw up. Your glass isn't half full, it's running over!

Sky- not sure what you want me to compare it to, being forward deployed in Germany I don't get to see too many stock XB's, let alone see them close enough/long enough to determine the differences. Additionally, who was I going to complain to at the dealer that I picked it up at, considering sales is 40 miles away from the dealer, and that one person at the dealer speaks english, and not fluent at that. Your right, my bad for not noticing; I mean, I had everything in the world to compare it to, plus if it wasn't the correct model I could have just spoken a little Duetsch to explain the sales paperwork and the contract and she would have understanded... told the techs, and they would have had the Ss setup in what 10min? Please.

On another note:
I've been emailing the sales guy back and forth and I am pressuring to get "hooked up" with some stuff to compensate.

Brine,

Unless you're sure (or have proof) that they intentionally attempted to deceive you, the best approach would be to consider that they made a mistake.

Looks like you didn't pay a premium for an SS, so you're not out financially. BUT, asking for some merchandise (or a partial cash refund) certainly isn't out of line to make up for the hassles that THEY caused you.

It's their mistake (intentional or not) and they should do something to "ease your pain".

yes, i wouldn't change the S with the ss, I would just ask for some extra goodies to let them make it up.

just another thing, try not to show them too much satisfaction for the bike you have been riding so far, and pray they don't browse bwb's xboard forum

I wasn't sure I was actually buying an Ss either when I looked at it. I did some quick research the next day, looked at some pics of the Ss and S and compared them so when I got to the dealership, I knew which one was which. The salesman wasn't even sure which one he was looking at, so someone had to know.

Right... funny how everyone suggests pants... real funny guys. But on a serious note, the sales guy he didn't have the authority to offer me a rebate or compensation, I am still going to get more shirts, as they already gave me some before purchase.

again, I am more than happy with the bike, in fact my parts came in from Daves today, soo I installed the airbox mask (pain in the rear), front/rear sliders, headlight grille, and since the complication of models the Ss frame pucks didn't seem to align correctly... so a no go on those. But I am more than satisfied, in fact; the shorter wheelbase has made me realize my true passion for acceleration, and the effect of doing it quickly... I just want the dealer to feel bad because they messed up my order, whether it was intentional or not.
These are my feelings/opinions- If I order a whopper w/cheese I want one, and no-one seems to have a problem with my going back and complaining and receiving my original order. Likewise, I ordered the bike, and received something different than specified. I intend to make them feel guilty as I feel cheated/played, whether that is right or wrong, doesn't really concern me anymore. I am the customer... I am always right!
I don't even want the Ss anymore, after having ridden and semi-adjusting to this bike. I just want some sign of true condolences.

What you need to do if the dealership drops the ball is contact Buell directly. I had the worst time getting my local dealership to honor the bearing replacement. After the third time of telling them that they were supposed to be replaced, I called Buell, they conferenced me in with the dealership and told them to "Get 'er done."

Wow, but I don't think Buell is going to be like " you guys screwed him over, so hook him up" though that would be tight as hell!

Diablobrian- this may be generic, in fact I know it is. But since I am trying to get the money together for a new pair of pants, while walking down the sporting goods isle of the BX I stumbled upon a pair of NHL knee/shin gaurds for street hockey and purchased them. They were only 25$ and they cover my ENTIRE leg (from knee down to ankle). I know they may not serve as good as Icon leg protectors or the like, but they are better than nothing. Plus they fit under the jeans I have been wearing riding, which is awesome. A cheap alternative for now. They had thick plastic gaurding the shin, with an additional sliding plate for the knee, I like it alot.

The thing I've found is that Buell seems to care a lot more about customer service than many of the Harley Dealerships do. It's a shame. I bet if you had bought a Harley and they had screwed up, they would have probably made sure to rectify the problem.

In situations such as this, I take a very tactful way of not taking "no" for an answer. You should receive some sort of compensation for sure.

Look. . . and this is just my opinion.

Be polite, be honest, say what you mean and listen carefully.

I am challenged to beleive your dealer does not want you, a paying customer who makes all wheels turn, as happy as you can possibly be.

It appears (and I have few "facts") that it was an honest screw'em up and one, more so in hindsight, of low consequnce. Something wrong happened and you came out grinning like the cat who ate the canary. Those are the kind of mistakes I love.

The dealer would be providing "goodwill" swag, not any sort of "compensation" per se.

If it's just "stuff" you want/need and it will make you happy and GET YOU OUT RIDING THE DARN BIKE....get me your address and I'll just have the factory send you some fun stuff.

But...until then. . . will you PLEASE go ride that Buell!

By the way. . . this always reminds me of a funny story.

Back on about 1997 we were hard pressed to get a "photo bike" to the PR types at Juneau.

Well a bike was raced off to them, but in the hustle and bustle it had a part on it that was not to appear on the M-2.

The year slowly passed and no one noticed.

Then one day my phone rings. . "Hello my name is ____ and my Buell was delivered without the _____ can you send it to me?"

I am busy trying to convince the guy he's had to much hot salsa and fried the medulla oblongata as I look at the catalog and EEEECCKKKKK!

He's RIGHT!

I "compensated" him.

Court - I would have been riding today but I had to rely on the car since my supervisor didn't think it was proper for me to be relieved of duty early for an all day event, therefor I have been up since 1400 yesterday, and it is 2205 today... over 24hrs of no sleep. Not a very good combination for riding, and since I had things to attend to all day I couldn't go to sleep. I played it safe and just installed some things today on it, and took a few pictures of it.

I thought putting 400 miles on it in 3 days of riding was good?!?

I was riding some rather aggressive hills the other night filled with twisties, with two R6's; not only were they downshifting while I was upshifting, but while passing my buddy I accidentally lifted the front end up a lil' bit. I'm slowly turning these Yamaha guys into believers!!!

Oh yeah, all while staying below 2500 RPM and 55MPH by the way- SERIOUSLY! I only weigh 150 fully geared.

It was quite and extreme grade hill, but they now don't try to count HP #'s. (Edit)
