Yikes, the clutch cable on my 03 XB9s is breaking up, and after only 8k milles. I orderred a new one, is it difficult to install? Can I replace by just removing the inspection cover? I know I need a manual but I want to get this done because my bike is my only transportation. Also has any one installed an adjustable clutch handle. I have small hands and want to get one.

I'm doing mine this weekend, and its pretty easy. Your'e right just the inspection cover, just make sure to replace the cover's gasket, its cheap and worth it. CRG makes adjustable levers real nice fit and quality.

Thanks, I probably will not get the cable until next week but I think I will give it a go. You're right I like the CRG handles.

Always always always keep your clutch cable in proper adjustment. I have 28,000 miles on mine, but them I'm religious in keeping it adjusted properly.

Mine broke at 10K miles. I recommend you keep the new cable lubed at the lever. This should keep the issue from occuring. I have 21K on the new cable.

mine snapped @ 6000 mi. let me tell you the drive home was a lot of fun (NOT!)... i had the same problem the douche bags down at Jackson, MS HD told me i would have to leave my bike with them for 2 weeks... its my only form of transpo as well... so i was forced to do it my self and it is actually not that hard to change... i did mine in 15-20 min... NOTE! be careful with the little piece that connects the cable to the clutch wheel... you may find your self fishing for it! you don't need to replace the seal (just rub a coat of trans fluid on it and put it back on tight)

i feel that this is warranty issue, but Buell has a dif opinion about it!

its a junk cable to begin with!

I was going to put on a hydro clutch conversion ... way too much cheddar!!!

I have been suprised at how often I have to lube mine, but at 10k miles on my XB9SX, it is holding out fine so far.

I end up lubing the thing every 3000 miles or so, otherwise it gets really stiff. Maybe I need better cable lube...

Never leave home with out a spare(plus tools to change it) ...

Lube every 5K(THAT MEANS THE MOVEABLE LEVER PARTS "TOO") with "Lubit-8" which every
H-D/BUELL Dealer has ...

The END always breaks off at the clutch lever because it is never lubed(or enough)
and the way it is designed one can not see
if it is about to break ...

Install a Muller power clutch. Far less strain on the cable and you can forget about it ever breaking again.

Lube for mountain biking works very will for all kinds of cable lubing. It seems to last well and doesn't attract/hold dirt.

Magura conversion is a bit of cheddar as stated above, but well worth every calorie!! No more cables or friction, smooth pull, great feel, you cant go wrong really.

Thanks all for the info, I'll be lubing this one often for sure! The cable should be in today and I'll put it on tonight. I got the the old one off with no trouble and I did a search for adjusting information and got some good results so I don't expect any trouble.
