For the removal of the fork relectors....is it legal, and how do you do it? do they just pop off or do you have to scratch glue off? the race fairings from halspa....you can get them in street version which has the headlights pre-cut, but what exactly comes in the package, and even tho it says xb9r fairings it'll fit a 12r won't it? and last, the after market turn signals....do you just unscrew the wires and take the wires out and thread the new ones into it? i didn't know if it was that easy. thanks, Bradley

For the reflectors....DOT/NHTSB require that the manufacturer install them. I have never
heard of anyone getting hassled over removing them. they pop off and the glue peels off easily.

The fairings are for either the 9 or 12. In the box you get the Upper and lower firing. Un-drilled.
no fasteners, no mounts, No instructions (with ours). I cannot remember if the solo tail came with it.

For turn signals, depending upon the brand and type they may be that simple. However, most do not come with
"bullet" connectors for the wiring. Also LED types will not work with the stock signal flasher.

Well... here in CA - we actually HAVE had somebody get hassled by having the side reflectors removed on the forks and on the rear fender.

I've got a sense that it's only a problem if you get "mouthy" if you get pulled over and give the officer a reason to "find" more things wrong. I know that was the case on the BRAG ride where one of our guys got stopped.

depends. Here in Virginia we have to do vehicle inspections every year, so yeah, they have to stay on. If you don't have inspections to worry about, I say take them off.

Gotta love VT:

From the inspection manual:

Reflectors:

a. None required - two are permitted
b. Must be of approved type - must show red to rear, and amber to front.
c. Reflectors cannot be used in any lieu of any lights required.

Oddly enough, I had to remove the front fork reflector just so I had a place to put the yearly inspection sticker, since it's required to go on the fork or the windshield.

Then again, the bike is supposed to fail inspection if there's not handgrips for the passenger.

Florida's even better! No inspections, no nothing. Motorcycles aren't even considered motor vehicles there. Insurance is only required if you want to ride helmetless!
I've seen slicks & wheelie bars on the street!
