I realize that winter's over, and that people on this board won't get nearly so fired up as they would have a couple of months ago; but I just would like to know how many people use the factory recommended oils in their bikes?
I see nothing wrong with using the oil that people who went to school and studied (in depth) advise. I'm not a petrochemical engineer. I'm also not an M.E., or an engine designer. I did do oil changes in a gas station for a little while, years ago; but that's as close as I get to being an authority.
One thing I do know is that any oil is better than no oil. Another thing I know is that when I used Harley 20w-50 in my S3, and changed it every 2,000 miles, there was less than .003" cylinder wear after 60,000 miles.
I am continually amazed by how many un-degreed Geniuses there are who know more than the people who spent years accumulating knowledge and who make their living using that knowledge.

No, I use M1 or Red Line synthetics.

I use synthetic oils in my XB12 and Ranger because they are superior to dino juice and are well worth the expense. I ran semi-synthetics and even Mobil1 15W-50 (car oil) in my Evo big twin for years and rode that sucker over 100K miles before the bottom end started knocking which isn't related to lubrication. It still produced over 100 lbs. comp. on each cylinder before I took it apart. Don't be afraid to use non H-D brands or even automotive oils in your Buell. I really don't think it will hurt anything.
