I recall seeing some read and blue carbon fiber for the old tube bikes. Does anyone know of a source for the XB's?

We used to make coloured carbon fibre with tinted gel coat. Unfortunately the guy who made it for us packed it in, so we stopped offering it. The problem with it was that you could never get two pieces to match absolutely identically because the colour depended on the thickness of the gel coat applied. A fraction too much or too less and you got a different shade.

I think I saw that on eBay awhile ago but it came from like Taiwan - way overseas somewhere and I didn't really trust the source.

I had that stuff made and I had big problems with the company that made it. The yellow tail section is the only piece I didn't get.

The color is Kevlar.

I have never bought a lottery ticket but seeing all that carbon I just might start............

I have to many toys to afford the carbon game. Unless of course I can get the free flight bug into Al lighton or the boys at Trojan..............

Did anyone check with Art? I hate to call and ask the same question if someone already has.

That stuff looks really good. I might actually think about buying a set of that if it were available.

Those colored airbox covers are sweet! Did they have a colored chin fairing too (maybe a flyscreen even)? I WAS thinking about translucid red, but now I would rather have those on my Lightning. Here's to hoping.

It's possible to lacquer carbon fiber. It's also possible to tint lacquer any colour you choose, still leaving the carbon fiber showing.

Rocket....I wouldn't think so. You can clear coat it but any kinda tint would just cover up the weave. IMO.

The color would have to be in the weave of the cloth and you would need to use a clear resin.

Well I talked about this very subject just three days ago with my painter friend. He's a very highly qualified (tech and chemistry wise if that makes sense) and highly skilled painter in the automotive world, and he tells me it's entirely possible to tint lacquer so as when you apply it to carbon fiber it appears the cf is coloured.

I'll let you know if I end up down this road with my own carbon, as that's why we were discussing it in the first place. If so, I'll put up the pic's.

The dyed kevlar (or other synthetic) and carbon are co-woven. Those are commercially available here in the States and in Britain and France.

I'll see if I can lookup the manufacturers (there are more than one)

We have a guy at work making some pretty trick bicycle parts. Problem is going to be buying small quantities - a full roll is a few thousand bucks.

Found them. http://www.cstsales.com/

Hybrid fabrics at:

http://www.cstsales.com/carbon_fiber.html#493

You can get red/carbon and blue/carbon. The natural kevlar/carbon doesn't look as pretty.

These guys are a sales outlet, NOT a manufacturer. Don't know where you'd have to go for this stuff in Europe (not going to get to my info til tomorrow)

Composite Structures Technology - they're good folks and sell cut lengths. All types of fibers/fabrics/resins and tools.

Per yard price will give you a sense of why freaking graphite parts cost so much - and this is with wet layup stuff, not the pre-impregnated/autoclaved stuff like Al sells.

PPG automotive paint makes dyes for candy colors called dmx. You could tint any clearcoat, it would stay transparent, but with color. You would still see the weave just fine.

By the way - the links I posted are to a reputable bunch of folks that I know and deal with because they are local to me. They are NOT the only group selling this stuff - but they do sell cut pieces.

I bet that there are a few dozen retailers selling the stuff - all will be pretty similar in price.
