So I still have a revision A belt on my '03 XBR, and I was watching eBay for some '04 parts to upgrade. But now, they have the '06 spec belt that's supposed to be the shiznit. I'm glad I didn't swap yet.

So, DaveS, you have any part numbers for us yet? Don't even get me started on that rumored 6-speed!

I think you can buy a lot of upgraded '03 belts for what it would cost to go to the '06 setup since it looks like a different swingarm would have to be part of the conversion. Belt, swingarm, pulleys and guards could add up to pretty good loot.

That is, if the new swingarm is significantly different. I'm willing to bet it's not that different. The drive ratios should be about the same, considering the wheels and tranny ratios are. So as long as there isn't a big difference in the distance between the two pulleys, I'd be it would be a bolt-on. Probably about the same as buying the parts to go to an '04 setup.

The 06 belt will fit the 04-05 pulleys.
The 06 belt is already out and in stock.
Part# is G0500.1AAE
of course, it will not fit 03 pulleys.

I am not sure, yet, if the longer versions 12X and 12Ss will take the same belt?

Dave...will the '06 belt fit the tubers? If not, can you find out if BMC is planning to make it available?

As I understand it from recent discussion on BadWeB the 05 9X belt fits the tubers so that should mean the new 06 bullet proof belt??? should also fit the tubers, right?

Is there any way to get a size a tooth count, in case any of the tubers were interested in trying it

Yup, what Dave said. We've already converted a few tube frame customers to the 04 XB belt with no reported negative issues. Buell doesn't officially endorse the substitution because they have not tested it. That said, the physical dimensions are identical, and the 04 belt feels decidedly tougher and rubbery-er than the plasticky feeling Gates Belt. Buell has done extensive testing on this belt per one of the Buell test technicians I spoke with. I know I'd be installing the XB belt if I was doing a tuber belt swap.

I just got the new 06 belt from Daves. Holy crap! This thing is rugged. You can tell just by the feel that it's one tough belt. I got it as a spare to have handy, but I plan on putting it on the next time I have the wheel off.

So what happens when you pick up a rock on the belt? Will it stretch enough to let the rock go all the way around the pulley or will it get pinched and cause the rear tire to lock up? I would prefer to break a belt than have the rear lock up.

I don't think the rear wheel will be locking up with any size rock in it...

I picked up a screw on my belt (04) and I'm not to sure it wouldn't have locked up if it hadn't punctured through the belt.

Number of teeth and durability. 03's originally spec'd at 15k replacement, 04's spec'd at 25k.

Nothing puncturing a belt is going to lock up the rear wheel. Trust me on this.

Blake, thats my point. What will happen if a rock or screw or whatever does get stuck on the new belt? I guess we will have to wait and see.

I hate to even try to estimate the wildly longshot odds of a belt picking up a screw puncture. Seriously, I would have to conclude that if my drive belt showed up punctured by a screw, someone had purposefully done it.

A rock will simply pass on around the sprocket and get spit out.

Blake, I would agree. I held the new belt in my hands and could tell I would have trouble bending it in any odd directions (well not trouble, but it's not as easy to do - and even if I did, I think it would hold up fine). This thing just feels TOUGH. I would imagine a rock would just pass around the the sprocket like you said.

Great job BMC!

I think that most rocks are crushed by the belt/sprocket action. Should the rock not crush it jams in the sprocket and the belt either snaps or splits longitudinally. The split thing happened to me on a 01 wideglide. looked like two blast belts nest to each other. Rear sprocket took a lot of damage too. The temp belt kit for the bigger harleys is a real pita to change on the road. Did that once too on a softtail when the belt snapped. Never did find what caused it to snap but the sprocket was damaged so I assum the rock was spit out when the belt snapped. Rock so big it wouldn't fit in sprocket???

I have ~6500miles and I'm on my 3rd belt. no gaurds (yeah, yeah) one was from a tiny pebble and it actually was stuck in the teeth of the sprocket. I had to get a screwdriver and pop it out. there was a line that ran the entire length of the belt. none ever 'broke', the other one had a tear half way through

maybe I need the 06 belt/pulleys/swingarm.
mines an '03

M1, I unscrewed it, had a nice day, then the belt snapped a week later. Luckily I was only a couple blocks from home.

Blake, may have been a long shot but it did happen. I had been riding the bike all day with no problems then I feel a sudden thud and then a scraping sound every time the screw passed under the belt guard. I guess I'm just very unlucky.
