Front pipe on my bike is REALLY Blue. The rear one is fine, which is backwards from the way I think most Harleys are, due to more airflow to the front cyl.

Am I running lean in the front cylinder or is this normal?

The owner/pilot is a good friend, college bud, and ex-co-worker of mine. And he'll be at my house with the bike in two weeks.

DTX -- which polish did you use, and did you use anything to help it, other than elbow grease, like a nylon wheel?

Eagle One metal polish and a felt wheel on my drill worked nicely.

Ponytail Elyaswolffxb9s is correct but you don't need a felt polishing wheel.Heres a secret.....Eagle One metal polish is the best hand polish I've worked with and Believe me I tried them all.Apply with paper towel.See the paper towel gives it something abrasive to help bring down the blueing. Then take some soft
terry cloth to polish with and remove remaining polish.Repeat a couple times until you have the desired look your after.Like the pic of DTX's bike above you can get that pretty quick.

This may sound like a lot of elbow grease, but its not too bad.

1st 400 grit 3M wet dry sand paper (the black stuff)
2nd 800 grit 3M wet dry sand paper
3rd 1500 grit 3M wet dry sand paper (what the hell, since I had it)
4th Blue Magic Steel Polish with a terry cloth towel.

This made it shine unbelievably. It was actually silver. But after one heat cycle, it turned shiney GOLD, as shown above. I like it alot. Its been that way for like 2 months now!

I had my pipes coated by Jet hot. It's an amazing finish, dosen't discolor and easy to clean.

It also matches the XB12 race kit exhaust.

Is it possible to remove the exhaust without rotating the engine like it says in the manual?

In looking at things, I think it would be a matter of removing the fan that blows on the rear cyclinder.
