Hey Coldwthrrider and all of you that saw this thread last year:
http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show.cgi?tpc=32777&post=301082#POST301082

Check out the cell phone mount. NO I don't talk on the phone while riding, but this way I can see if I need to make a call at the next pit stop.

The phone is a non-folding Sony, the case is a Boxit Dolphin, and the mount is a chopped up Boxit bicycle mount with a 1/4" black plastic spacer (hacked from a H-D kickstand footprint). Had to drill another two 6-32 thru holes in the triple tree. Total cost $40, if I didn't already have all the parts.

The key turns without interference, the case is water- and vibration-proof, and I can easily unmount the phone and talk right thru the case. Best of all, it's stealth: when the GPS and cell are removed, nobody but another Bueller would notice the little brackets.

Anybody else do stuff like this?
Next mission: Hours-of-Operation Guage, any thoughts?

That's nice! Hopefully now I can stop having people make fun of ME for having the Pee-Wee Herman bike with doo dads everywhere! That's a great place to mount them, right in easy view and it doesn't block the speedo or tach. When are you going to mount a CD player and CB and turn that thing into a real Goldwing?

I see you have an eTrex Legend....did you say you were looking to upgrade? Any chance I can score deal on a "gently used" GPS from ya?

Cool stuff Nadz.
Not really for me though. My point on two wheels is to get away from all the cell-phones/pagers/blackberry's and forget they even exist

I hear ya, Jar. That's what the gps is for- to get back after trying to get lost all day long! To be honest, the cell phone thing doesn't work anyway- I rode for five hours yesterday and missed four calls. I'm not crying tho.

I will admit, the GPS could have come in handy more than once. Finding your way back can be fun, then there was the time I bought 3 gal. of fuel from a farmer....

Yeah Jarhead, that is a bit of knowledge that every rider should have. Every farm I ever lived, worked on, or have even seen, has a gas tank and pump on premises for fueling the equipment. Not something the average city dweller would know. Could save a bit of walking.

Is talking on the cell really a problem if you have a mic and speaker imbedded in your helmet and your phone set to autoanswer?

As long as you are not trying to dial on the move I don't see a problem.

My job gives me the freedom to ride my streetbikes or dirtbikes, their snowmobiles or quads as long as I am in reach.

A large percentage of the population becomes very very distracted when talking on the phone. Much more so than when talking to a fellow passenger. I'm not entirely sure why this is, just seen it WAY too many times.

Hahaha- no cupholder EVER. Besides, I ride with a full-face helmet, here's why:

So what's everyone's favorite chemical for chiseling a thousand dead insects off the bike?

As for handsfree, I have a bluetooth headset, and I know better than to even try it. Our bikes are just too a$$-kickin' loud. Talking on the phone will keep you from laughing as you carve thru the turns. My effort was a fool's errand.

The best way (and safest for the helmet) to de-bug a helmet (or bike) is to take a clean old bath towel, saturate it with plain old water, then drape it over the bug-crusted area, and leave it for a few hours. The bug crust becomes bug goo again that wipes right off. Use thumbnail for the stubborn bug butts. I then usually follow up with Honda spray polish/cleaner, which is great for touch up cleaning anything on the bike.
