Has anyone run Metzler Rennsports on their XB and if not has anyone run them on any bike? I have the RS2's which is the soft compound vice their RS1 super soft compound. One thing I did not know is that these tires are actually manufactured in Germany. At least my tires have Made In Germany etched on them. I am waiting a little longer to get them mounted as I have a little life left on my stock tires. I was just wondering what kind of life to expect out of these and how they perform in the wet and dry. Is there another tire out there that is better than these other than a full race compound tire? Thanks for the help in advance. John

Rennsports have an enviable reputation in the UK.

Chalk up one for a good marking. Can anyone else comment that has actually run these?

I'm running Pirelli corsas.
I read that they are the same tire as the
super corsa race, with a little harder compound
and tread designed for wet or dry.

The supercorsa is the same tire as the
rennsport race. Just a little different tread
pattern.

Now, all that said I've put about 50 miles on em.
And I'm very impressed.

I use to run evo dragons on the track years ago.
These are the next generation.

We ran Metzeler Rennsports on our race bike and they are EXCELLENT. So much better than the stock Dunlops you would think it is a different bike. One thing to remember is that the OE Dunlops are a 'special' lightweight construction and run at higher pressures than most other brands, so when changing to Metzelers or Pirellis make sure you lower the pressures by around 3psi.

As far as mileage goes, depends on your riding, but don't plan any long trips; ) We found a set of the soft compound tyres would last us one meeting - and possibly another practice session at a stretch.

Trojan,
That is a little scary. Does that mean I should not even use these tires on the street if they wear that fast? Or are you talking about the super soft compound vice my soft compound? John

We used the softest compound available for racing, but I wouldn't expect more than 2-2500 miles out of a rear Rennsport of any description used on the road.

I didn't know Pirelli and Metzeler were the same? Well you learn summat new every day.

So I can comment first hand then...........

On the 916 I'm currently running Super Corsa's back and front. The rear is a soft compound with a tall profile for track use. Here's the deal. I'm not one of those who'll tell you that one tyre works better than the rest. I'm quite happy to go to the local breakers and purchase a take-off from a wreck, or a used track tyre. On the road there's really no noticeable difference to be recognised imo between quality brands. Especially dare I say on a tube frame Buell! There is though a big however where the 916 is concerned.

I've now run several tyres on the 916 rear. Some take-offs amongst them. Right now she sits on Super Corsa's. The front SC was on it when I bought her and that's about getting on 4000 miles ago. I'm a naughty boy too because I should have replaced her by now as it is shot. There is no noticeable tread pattern on both edges and right across the centre is not far off smooth. The rear SC is a similar story. It's worn down to its limit and it's done about 2000 miles.

I have to say I've never experienced such a noticeable difference in tyre performance as I have when I fitted the rear SC. I concluded some time ago once I'd got use to it that the 916 is a sublime handler just like 10 years worth of experts have told the world, but until you've tried one yourself........ Believe me, when I first got the 916 the hardest part was getting familiar with the low speed handling. Ok I've got some pretty radical rear-sets on there and a (little) bit of a belly out front of my leathers but low speed is where I needed to build up my confidence. On the open road you can pretty much get on a quick pace straight off if you're NOT familiar with race reps, but then anyone can ride fast on an open road. It's what it does when you ride fast between those open road sections that really blows you away. Once you've come to terms with this on your 916 a whole new world of fun and excitement opens up and this is what I'm referring to when I say build up confidence. That rear SC has gone another stage further. Not only has it opened another door to how planted the rear is, it also improved the turn in much more than I'd have ever anticipated. Point and squirt is the order of the day.

Super Corsa's are fantastic tyre's if you're looking for limits especially!

If you're going to be using these on the street only I recommend the Metzeler Sportec M1, or the Diablo.
Great traction wet or dry, and a pretty long life.
MUCH better than the stock light weight Dunlops IMHO. No standing up under braking, and you won't need new tires after a day in the mountains.
This is my stock Dunlop after one full day in the North Georgia Mountains, only about a thousand miles on them.

Rocket makes some good points, and you'll do well to listen to what he's saying.

The tires I'm running are the Diablo corsa.
It's designed for street and track
The standard Diablo is made for the street
Super corsas are full race tires, and want
last long but offer the best performance.

I raced on Metzeler Rennsports up until last year. I used a Supersoft on the front and a soft on the rear. For racing they are awesome, they come in real quick and stick like glue. I switched to Pirelli SuperCorsas, cause they are easier to get, which are the same tire different tread pattern, the Pirellis even say made in Germany on them, same results. Forget wet weather, I have raced in the rain on them but never again. My only warning for using DOT Race tires on the street is heat cycles, everytime the tire comes to temperature then cools the rubber changes, even if the tire looks good the rubber may be shot. For the street I have used the Metzeler Sportecs and absolutely loved them, plenty of grip excellent in the rain. I would even use them for a track day.

Rensports for the street? No way. If it rains you will be in trouble. Rensports are racing tires. You'll not likely ever get them up to temperature on the street.
