i recently totaled my blast. (actually a drunk did it). I am now seriously looking into getting a XB9S. i have found a 2003 with 7 miles for 7595. (leftover i guess) well i like the polished belt gaurds and highlighted sprocket that buell offers. the problem is it says 2004 +. how much would i have to do to be able to use the polished pieces? i know its HIGHLY recommended to put 2004 belt on but i need to know what else i would have to do to basically turn it into a 2004. I can't remember all the changes for 2004 so if someone could throw out some info i would appreciate it.

The pulley's and the belt guards are the major things wrt that area. I think the only other stuff is the belt itself and the 05's use the "12" airbox lid.

Anyone else?

I dont see why the belt guards wouldnt fit. The sprocket may be 2004+ specific with the belt.

Other differences are wheel bearings & kickstand (recalls i think) and lower footpegs for '04.

If your buying from a dealer, see if they'll throw in the racekit. Others have said they swung that deal.
good luck!

The '04 belt guards won't work with the '03 belt and pulleys. So to use the polished you would need to upgrade to the '04 belt and pulleys which in the long run will be a good thing if a $500 expense to start with.

ok thanks for the reply(s). i was concerned that the way the 03 belt guards and the 04 gaurds bolted up different and i would have to change the swingarm. if all i need to change is the belt, sprocket (highlighted but it says "04 xb models" not "04 and later" so will it only fit 04 not 03 and 05?) and the pulleys then i will probably do it. sorry i know this is a kind of confusing post.
