so, my bike has had the charging system overhaul (stator/rotor, regulator) for some time now and has functioned perfectly for the past few years. I had not ridden the bike the past few weeks and the battery had discharged, so I jumped it with my truck.... now it is running north of 15v and I am getting the systems voltage error screen. I rode around a little hoping that something would change once the bike warmed up, but it is still a problem. the regulator is an SH847. any input would be appreciated. | ||

"I jumped it with my truck...." I maybe wrong, but you may have done damage to the SH847. Was the truck running during the jump? | ||

the truck was not running. it wasn't the first time i've jumped the bike, but it was certainly the first thing that came to mind when the system voltage error notice started flashing on the cluster. | ||

If the battery was dead flat and you jumped the bike from the truck, it is imperative that you wait about 5 minutes with both batteries connected before turning on the bike and hitting the starter. This short 5 minute delay will allow the dead battery to gain some semblance of a charge before starting the bike and presenting this huge load to your bike alternator of a dead flat battery. Otherwise, you risk over currenting the rectifier diodes in the regulator, which probably killed it. | ||

well, if nothing else, it's an easy swap of the rr based on the plug connectors. $200 I wasn't planning on spending....completely avoidable...thanks for the input, fellas. |
