I went ahead a replaced the font fork seals. I used an engine hoist to hold up the bike while it was on a swing-arm stand. I made the compression tool out of 2x2 and 2x4s. It worked perfectly fine with a medium sized ratchet strap. All in all it took about 3 hours start to finish...

That's on my list of things to do to the '08 front end. Getting the '09 back on the road is the first priority though.

Interesting workaround with the compression tool. I have the tool from Traxxion but it works best with 3 hands--two to push down on the tool, and one to slide in the shim.

I made a set for "fork-service" I'll see if I can find it.
No joy, maybe pix?

Damper tube "fisher" - 1/4" NPT to football needle to brass tube. all soldered together. Make sure the whole tool is open in the middle, need to be able to blow thru it.

Clamp for fork tube, put in vise level.

Level gage - 30-60cc syringe, tubing(hard and soft) and a piece of soft tubing to set depth of fork oil from top.

compressor - take a ratchet strap and cut all but the last neg curve.
Put the hooks in the damper tube with the strap going thru the axel hole.
