Based on the temperature range where you live, your preference on changing the coolant on your 1125, this article may or may not be useful. I live in the Tehachapi mountains of California where summer temperatures are hot and in winter it gets below freezing. I wanted the bike to run significantly cooler in the summer.

In the spring, once I know the temperature will not drop below freezing, I remove the right radiator cover, drain the reservoir tank by removing the small hose from the neck, and then unscrew the bottom bolt of the water pump which drains the majority of the coolant. I do not remove the bottom hose on the left radiator because it is a pain and not that much coolant comes out. I then fill the system with distilled water and run it until the thermostat opens at about 165F. After it cools a bit, I drain it again, add 7 ounces of Amsoil Dominator Coolant Booster, and top it off with distilled water, no antifreeze. This combination will run 25F cooler. The Amsoil has a surfactant that significantly outperforms Redline Water Wetter. Here is a link to the Amsoil product I use. http://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-product/other-produc ts/antifreeze/dominator-coolant-boost/?code=RDCBCN -EA

The key is thoroughly bleeding the cooling system following the drain and fill. This is necessary to maximize heat transfer. With the radiator cap off, at idle (do not rev it) let it idle until you no longer see bubbles escaping. This takes about 20 minutes or so. Turn it off, let it cool, top it off with distilled water, and put the cap back on.

Before it freezes again, drain the right side radiator and water pump and then fill with about 65% mix of antifreeze and distilled water. This only takes a few minutes and will put the coolant at close to a 50/50 mixture because of the water still left in the bike.

STATOR EFFECT ON COOLANT TEMPERATURE (2008 1125R)
Regarding the post above, I tested the effect of the stator on the cooling temperature while I was bleeding the air out of the system. My bike is equipped with a series voltage regulator (SH847) and a three position headlight switch that allows no headlights, one headlight (daytime), and two headlights (night). The lights are 20W LED. The factory halogen lights draw 35W each plus the 5W marker lights. The bike runs 80W with the factory halogen/markers and 20W with my LED switch setup.

I did the test at 75F air temperature in the shade. I turned the headlights off and let the bike idle. The bike ran at idle for about 15 minutes and varied between 171F and 173F. The radiator fans were running at the low speed. The voltage gauge ran between 14.4V and 13.8V. I turned on one headlight and the temperature slowly rose to 175F-178F and remained constant. The voltage ran in the mid to high 13s. I then switched both headlights on and the temperature rose steadily to 185F and the voltage eventually dropped to 12.4V-12.8V. Both fans were running. I stopped the test because my coolant was bleed. The temperature was still rising.

If I had the factory 80W headlight setup and both fans running at idle for several minutes, the bike would probably overheat if it did not start moving to force air through the radiators.

This would be helpful for those of us in the Deep South. (South Georgia/Florida) We probably would NOT have to "put it back" since we never see freezing but for a few days at the end of January and then I am not riding. What do y'all think?

If it freezes at all, I would not risk damage to the engine. It sounds like you can run a 10% - 20% solution of antifreeze all year based on your climate. This mixture won't cool as well as pure water, but pretty close.

You state that using the Amsoil water treatment runs the coolant 25F cooler. What were your typical before and after temperatures? 25F is a huge range.

What about corrosion resistance? If I was going to do this mod, I'd run 10-20% coolant as it does get below freezing where I live, but the bike will either be garaged or stored in the basement during the winter and unlikely to ever be outside at or below freezing.

My temperature would run up to 220F on hot days in traffic. It now runs below 200F under the same conditions.
Here is a link that explains the product including corrosion resistance and the 25F.

Mine typically stays under 200F--the only time I've seen it get over that was on a hot summer day when I'd just spent 15 minutes railing through some 2nd and 3rd gear switchbacks. That time, it got up to about 215, and when I stopped to wait for my buddies to catch up, it hung there for several minutes, so I finally shut off the bike. I don't spend much time idling in traffic, but even then, I don't think I've ever seen more than 200.

However, it's been a.. while since I last changed the coolant so it's undoubtedly due. Might as well give the Amsoil stuff a try and switch to a 20% coolant solution.
