Hi, As winter approaches here in Colorado, plans have begun to form in my mind for next summer. My dad is retiring and we are planning a trip from to the west coast, up the 101 in entirety, and back. I have a 2009 Buell 1125cr that has been nothing but reliable after the first year of ownership in 2010. (Clutch weep and Stator fix) I have ridden it up to 580 miles in a day with no issue since I installed the upright bars. I know it isn't an ideal touring bike but I love it and the handling is just dialed to my style and fit here in the Rockies. I foresee this thread sticking around for a while and hope to document the journey, if I decide to take the CR. I have debated a Harley (We are a Harley family) over the fear of reliability but as I go into year 5 of ownership, the CR has just kept barreling forward. So, input welcome from folks who have put big miles on their 1125s welcome. Very excited at the prospect of taking this bike on a once in a lifetime trip. |

Great, have fun doing it. I've toured plenty of times on both my 1125R and CR. Since you have done a nearly 600 mile day before, I assume you got all the comfort stuff set how you need it. Other than the upright bars, what changes have you done? A different seat and lower footpegs may help you stay comfortable on the long days, as would the stock exhaust if you are presently running a loud aftermarket one. |

I have the factory seat but might get a saddleman. It's not a bad seat for my needs. My exhaust is an EBR racing setup so quite loud, but I kind of like it that way. Loud pipes save lives.... Riding to mile marker 1 in LA, lets say I might just need it. Kind of excited to explore lane splitting. What kind of saddle bags do you use Froggy? I am looking at the Cortech 2.0s. |

Loud pipes cause long term discomfort from the droning on and on for hours on end, you will be able to ride longer on a quiet bike Every ass is different, so if the stock seat works for you then great, but yes give a Saddleman a try, you won't know if it is better for you or not without firsthand experience. For bags, the cheapest solution is a simple duffle bag and strap it to the back. I haven't tried Cortech bags but I've heard good about them, I have used the Buell accessory saddle bags that were available back when the bikes were being produced. I presently use a Ventura rack and one of their bags, it is fantastic and very convenient, I believe American Sport Bike still has one left. http://americansportbike.com/newdir/Item/9605 |

Cortech bags are too wimpy; I had a set and the fabric just fell apart up at the top zippers after two seasons. Cortech said sorry, out of warranty but we will give you a discount on another pair. No thanks. I went back to Chase Harper which is a hell of a lot more robust; there's simply no comparison. |
