The relay may be bad, and never allowing the third leg to join the party, so to speak.

I still think you need to check the AC output of all three legs at the proper rpm to determine if the stator is good or not.

@Panshovevo Finally ran the the stator test (needed an extra set of hands.) I got between 40-43V AC per leg.

What rpm was that at? Did you try a little higher rpm to see if voltage increased?
The manual says it should be 45-55 at 3000, but if all three legs read about the same, I would tend to think it's within reason.
I'd like to hear other opinions though.

If I had two legs reading 50 volts and one reading 40, I'd be suspicious of the low one.

Have you checked all the grounds, including the regulator mounting, for corrosion and security?

@Panshovevo that was at 3000 rpm

It was recently replaced.(CE-605) not that it can't go bad quickly.
Remove the Harley fix and shelve it, the CE 605 is a switching regulator, and is supposed to unload the when regulating. the harley fix may have fried the VR.

Simple vr test, with the fix out the motor running at any reasonable road speed the voltage at the battery should be above 12 volts, you need over 13 to charge and 14.5 and above are getting too high for the battery. Presuming that the stator checks good and generates the rated current.

Ok, disconnected the Harley "fix". Started the bike and went for a short ride to the gas station. Started out at 12.7v but after the short ride to the station the voltage dropped to 11.7 and was at 11.5 by the time I was home. So I guess it's not the fix or the relay on the fix.

For clarification, when you say " disconnected the Harley fix", did you bypass the " fix" harness and reconnect the stator directly to the regulator, or what exactly did you do?

Did you ever check the grounds, including the regulator mounting point?

Yes, I bypassed the harness and plugged the regulator directly to the stator. I have checked the grounds. I am going to run a test on the regulator itself.

I emailed Jack at Roadstercycle about checking my CE-605 voltage regulator. He got back to me quickly with the procedure and it was relatively easy test with a multimeter.(I will post the procedure in a min) And sure enough one lead did not check out (I don't want to celebrate too soon but I think make have finally located the issue) I have an email in to him about getting a replacement. Fortunately I have the same regulator on my 1125r might pull the one off of there and put it on the CR and confirm it resolves the issue.

@Oldog what is the conflict between the Harley fix and the switching regulator that would cause the regulator to fry?

Ok I am definitely on to something here, not sure exactly what happened. But while running a second test on the voltage regulator to confirm the results of my first test. I decided to run the test directly to the end of the positive lead of the regulator(it has an inline circuit breaker on the end of the positive lead end) when I pulled the rubber boot off the inline circuit breaker the positive post of the breaker was black and burnt so much so it had blackened the rubber and melted it. So at this point I am assuming either the breaker failed and burned up the regulator or vice versa. Unless it had something to do with the Harley fix as Oldog had suggested.

Ok I was removing the regulator to ship it to Cycle Electric and found this confirming it was the voltage regulator that went bad.

Ouch. I thought mine was bad and they tested it and said it was fine. The breaker showed a drop in voltage. and they told me to replace that. In the process of putting the bike back together. I added deutsch connectors to make it easier to remove.

@Shawn that's good idea about the deutsch connectors. I am going to put some on when I get my regulator back. I left the stock regulator in the original location, am going to put connectors on it also so I can use it in a pinch.

@Shawn Looks perfect I will set mine up when I get it back from cycle electric. I ordered the deutsch connectors. I am going to setup the 1125R also. Thanks for the great idea.,

Zhen13:
The hd bandaid could short and fail your stator or ground your VR input possibly damaging it, Bear in mind it is not designed to have part of the 3 phase load disconnected while operating.

Here is the diode test procedure for CE 605 voltage regulator.
This is an internal diode check for a CE 605 SB regulator.
These number are from a new unit off the shelf.

R/R check, CE 605 SB

Meter set to Diode check
R/R removed or disconnected from motorcycle wiring.

Positive R/R terminal hooked to Positive meter terminal.

Should get 0 resistance or no reading on all 3 stator wires coming out of R/R.

Positive R/R terminal hooked to Negative meter terminal.

Should get something close 1650. I got 1666, 1641, 1668. on the 3 stator wires coming out of R/R (If you get a 0 here that's a problem)

Negative R/R terminal hooked to Negative meter terminal.

Should get 0 resistance or no reading on all 3 stator wires coming out of R/R.

Negative R/R terminal hooked to Positive meter terminal.

Should get something close to 480. I got 485, 483, 493, on the 3 stator wires coming out of R/R. (If you get a 0 here that's a problem)

If you need to return the R/R for warranty send it to the address below with your name and address and what type of bike and describe the issue fully.
