Can I please get some tips on removal and replacement of the shock. I am planning on ordering the Showa race shock from EBR tomorrow. Trying to think of the best way to support the bike and swingarm. I don't have access to a strap or lift from my garage ceiling. I did this once on another bike that had fixed foot pegs- was able to use jackstands. Not sure about how to do it on my 1125 CR. Any hints on initial shock settings for a 180 lb street only rider would appreciated as well. Thanks, Mort

can you put a floor jack under the back of the engine? you can use the stock muffler as a jack point. do you know how to set sag?

Thanks, Tim. I have a floor jack and have the Barker exhaust but I will find a jack point. I know how to set sag and will get a friend to help with the measurements.

When you order the shock, be sure to tell them rider weight so you get the right spring stiffness. EBR set initial sag when I ordered mine, so final set-up was pretty close. Be sure you support wheel by slipping a pipe through the axle and supporting it with jack stands so it won't fall off the jack.

Mort,

I used an aluminum a-frame ladder and tie down straps centering the ladder over the bike and connecting the straps to the sub-frame at the closest point to the frame. The upper shock mount bolt is also the subframe bolt so i removed the bolt, pulled the shock and then put the bolt back in while prepping the Race Shock for install.

If you don't want to take a chance with the subframe it may be possible to remove the rider foot pegs and connect the straps at that point by installing a pin or bolt you can hook.

I found that the Race Shock, at it's shortest setting, is 4 or 5mm longer than the stock shock. This will affect your rear ride height. I don't know if you will experience the same but I recommend checking shock length when you have the two side by side.

To compensate I lowered the forks in the triples.

I just throw jack stands under the pegs and drop the bike off the rear stand onto them. I can pull/swap the shock almost as fast as I can change a front tire that way...

As suggested, you will probably need to RAISE the front ride height. (show less tube above the triple)

Thanks for all the info guys. I really don't want to increase my ride height at all from stock so I may need to consider another shock other than the Showa race shock if it's lowest height is higher than stock which is disappointing to me as I really wanted it.
It would be easiest to hold the rear of the bike up with jack stands under the foot pegs but I don't have fixed racing footpegs so I am concerned they would swivel up under load. I will likely support the bike under the rear of the engine and pull the Barker exhaust off to get to the best jacking point and remove and check the oil screen while the muffler is off. thanks again for the guidance fellows-I very much appreciate the support of this forum!! It makes my Buell ownership all the more special and enjoyable!! Mort
