My 09 1125R has been sitting for a while..maybe 7 or 8 weeks and I was taking it out to literally blow the dust off it. It would not start at first and only cranked for a few seconds before going completely dead, which I found odd because the battery is about 6 mos old and its on a battery tender. I pulled the seat cover and found the battery terminals melted. The only wiring damage is some melting to the plastic on the tender leads, other wires appear to be undamaged. It melted enough to warp the lead terminals and I can see where a drip of lead ran down the battery. The terminals were warm to the touch and I could see some discoloration in the screws so I suspect there was an arc. I let it cool for a few minutes, put it back together without the tender leads and it all worked fine. Started right up, no smoke, fire, nothing hot to the touch, and no check engine lights. I don't think it even blew any fuses. umm. wtf ? I've never experienced this and have never heard of this. Should I replace the battery and/or the tender harness ? Why would this happen ? I'm pretty sure everything was snug. Can I continue to run the bike with this battery even though it has warped terminals as long as the screws are snug ? Thanks for any info. About the only thing that overheats an electrical connection is a loose connection  | ||

yep, after googling this I figured out it's probably a loose connection, I just spazzed at first because I've never seen that. Still not sure if I have to replace the battery. I'll double check it and if the screws hold snugly then I'll keep it for a while, else I'll replace it. |
