Is this a correct spacer position? Manual figure 1-63 says it's incorrect, while figure 1-59 shows opposite installation.

It looks correct to me. If you put the spacer in the wrong way, the little triangle shaped part of the spacer won't sit flat with the machined flat for the valve cover gasket. You can't even put the cover back on.

No, looks like it's actually incorrect. Where is says correct position is incorrect and vice versa. Figure 1-59 shows correct position.

The bat wings fold into the gaps flush. The service manual DOES have an error in one of the pictures.
