What's the purpose of the perforated clips on the back of the front brake pads?

The thin perf SS bits?

I'm honestly not sure. Not all pad brands have them.

Yeah those perforated pieces. I just realized I forgot to put them on the new set of pads, and was wondering if I really needed to?

For what it's worth, I don't run them, and never have except on the pad brands that come with them... I think EBC.

The higher-end race pads don't have them.

Interesting. All this time I've been swapping the shims over to whatever pad I've been running.
