For those that have tightened their rotor nuts. Do you still have a rattle type sound down low on the left side of the engine at idle and lower rpm cruising that seems to go away with increased rpm. I'm just curious..... I usually have head phones on and dont remember this particular sound. Thanks, Todd | ||

Would you say it's clatter at low rpm and very light motor load, cracked throttle and low speed? | ||

yeah kinda like a clatter.... Listened again tonight and it is much more quiet when warmed up. oil level is correct. maybe timing chain guides? I should just leave my headphones on... LOL | ||

FWIW, I just did the rotor/stator kit install, my bike has just over 8000 miles, and the original rotor slid right off the shaft very easily, while the new one needed some persuasion. May seem notably quieter. | ||

Duphuckincati, I had the same experience with the EBR rotor. I had to thread my rotor removal tool on & tap the rotor on. I wonder if there is a little burr from the oil cooling machining. | ||

Bump Question still stands. if you have tightened your rotor do you still have a bit of a clatter noise at idle from under the ignition cover?.... my noise seems to go away under light load, low RPM and cracked throttle. it is def from under the ignition cover.... yes i am lazy and do not feel like removing the cover and checking | ||

When the nut was loose on mine there was a noticeable clatter coming from the stator cover area, I don't know about above idle, exhaust drowned it out. | ||

If I sit next to the bike and listen to my engine when it's running, it's the mist horrid worrying noise, never heard another engine sound like these do. So I fitted a nice loud exhaust and just don't worry about it. I had the oil jet recall done ages ago, to do that would the dealer have to take this nut off ? | ||

Update: NOT the rotor.... it was the stator. the three bolts that hold it came loose and it was rattling around in there. goodish news that it's not the bottom end. totally my fault. | ||

Glad to hear that you got it fixed, Todd. when I saw this thread resurface, I was going to recommend that you rotate the cover backwards and re-check the torque on the rotor nut. Had you previously replaced the stator? In my experience the torque applied at the factory exceeds the torque specs in the service manual, and I'd be really surprised to hear that the stator came loose on it's own. | ||
