The first time it did it I chalked it up as just something random. But since it's done it three days in a row now I have questions. Here it is, I get off of work at 10pm start the bike while I get ready to leave. I don't roll till the coolant temp goes away. I drive about 5 - 6 miles where I stop to have a smoke (can't smoke on state prison grounds). The air temp reading is upper 50's. I shut the bike down by way of kill switch then key. About a minuet later the fuel pump cycles then every 14 seconds (I timed it) it does it again and again and again... It'll keep doing it till I turn the key on for a few seconds then turn the key off and it won't do it any more. Any thoughts? Also ( it didn't do it today) but on colder nights I guess, the LFL/CEL will come on at start up (after my smoke) but will go off after about 30 seconds or so.

The ECM will keep the fuel rail pressurized for 10 min, IIRC. Was 20 min at first in 08.
Keeps from vapor locking the injectors.

For the LFL, you need a new IC with the latest firmware Rev (6.2-08/9 or 7.1 for 2010)
Check your firmware at the end of Diag Mode list.

Ok I understand keeping the fuel pressure primed, but why would it take three years for it to start now for the lights to start coming on?

The thermistor they use seems to gradually change it's resistance over time and temp cycles.
When new it has a sweep of 800-1400 Ohms, by spec, but over time that range drifts.
Mine measured a sweep of 900-2200 for a temp change of ~60 dF down to 40 when it got replaced.

Yours isn't out of range enough to trigger a DTC during running.
However, early IC firmware had the ECM continuing to monitor sensors AFTER shutdown which is why you get a "historic" at start-up.
That is fixed in the current Revs, 6.2 and 7.1.

That's why it goes away for you when the ECM "goes live" after reaching OpTemp.

I went thru diag mode today. At the end it said
"SW 6.1
CAL 1 "
My bike was bought in November '08 and it's an '09 and it was in August '09 last time my bike saw the dealer.
