Had to replace my stator out of pocket as my warranty had ended about two weeks prior. Cost about 1200.00. My dealer says I can purchase an extended warranty for 1600.00 for 5 years coverage. Sounds like a wise move, what does anyone think? | ||

They didn't goodwill it as warranty work? There have been people that have gotten whole new motors a few months out of warranty. | ||

You paid $1200 for a stator...and now you want to dump ANOTHER $1600 into it? F that! If you don't think what you have is reliable, sell it while you aren't any further behind. How great will that 5-year warranty be 3 years out when the stator blows in June and your bike sits for 6-8 weeks waiting for parts/service. Life is too short to have motorcycles you are scared of failing. ac | ||

Extended warranties are nice...but my thought process right now is, I can buy a lot of manuals and tools for $1600. Teach a man to fish... | ||

From what I have seen labor is not the biggest cost, its the parts. When you can get them man are they expensive!! Scott | ||

Had to replace my stator out of pocket as my warranty had ended about two weeks prior. Was your bike in the shop for at least 2 weeks since you bought it? I would strongly insist that the warranty be extended by the number of days it was in the shop. | ||

No, the bike has really had not had any problems before this. The part was like almost 800.00 which is all I had to pay for, they threw in the labor. Not scared of the bike failing. Just don't want to have to spend a lot out of pocket if something happens. Yes I did state it was 1200.00 because that is what it was going to cost before they did a little something for me. | ||

OMG I'd have done it myself a rewind costs about $200.00 and it takes a couple hours to do. The problem is H-D is selling you the stator you have not an improved one so it will fail again you can't do anything about the money you already spent but I wouldn't spend anymore. However you can not put a price on piece of mind. | ||

TBH I wouldn't have spent that money on another "iffy" stator... Nor would I buy the extended warranty.. A rewind is $300 at most, you could get 5 of them done for the cost of the extended warranty and almost everything else on the bike is very reliable... Maybe the clutch leaks would be a concern but $200 would cover that if it happened.. | ||

$400 for labor for a stator? That would be ~5 hours at $80/hour. Seems like an awful long time. I have done a lot of work on bikes, and I don't think I have ever done a single R/R that took 5 hours. This includes motor swapping. I can't understand putting $1600 into an extended warranty. That is 1/4 the value of the bike! ac | ||

I gave up on my warranty. did a R/R on my own dime because harley could not duplicate the issue Just had custom rewind do my stator because why put another POS stator in that will just burn up? what is next? I am ready for it... and Badweb will damn sure help me like always! Is my local harley dealer ready? probably not. | ||

i avoid the dealership like the plague. i use an independent shop for everything i cannot do myself, and call Erik Buell Racing for parts when i need something. walking through a harley dealership makes me cringe. too much chrome, too few bikes, too many posers; parts guys who only know how to sell ape hangers, service departments that are only good at installing chrome, and charging 300 bucks for an oil change service. eff that. harley isnt getting any more of my $$ in the form of warranties. | ||

No friggin' way would I do the warranty. Of course I'm mechanically inclined and can fix just about anything that might go wrong with the bike, as long as I can get parts. Complete used motors go for $1500 on Ebay, so even if you blow the whole thing up, you'll about break even (if you do the work yourself). But if you are not mechanically inclined, plan to keep the 1125R for a long time, and have the money to spend, then get the warranty. |
