I havent touched my suspension. I never owned a bike with adjustable suspension anyways. Im 250 with gear, and i have a passenger whos 150 with gear... and im going on a long ride. I dont want to damage what I got, and i know its over the load. But can someone write an idiots guide to setting up the suspension?

Mine is set for me solo and I just ride with my girl on the back. Though I'm 6'2" @ 180 and she's 5'6"ish @ about 130ish.

I've had no problems with the bike and we ride from Chicago to Iowa, Chicago to Moto GP in Indy last year and going this year, To Wisconsin, or other long rides in IL.

I dont even have the suspension adjusted, and i dont recall reading in the manual what the settings should be at.

Anyone have an idiot step by step?

Miss the KLR... all i had to do was buy the right springs for it.

There's a chart in the owners manual.

Read the chapter first. It defines the terms and explains what you're doing.

The factory settings are FIRM. If you like a plush ride, go one or two weight ranges lighter.

If you don't like the way it behaves...re-read the chapter so you know what changes you are making, and MAKE ONE CHANGE AT A TIME. Then, go for a ride and see if it helped. DO NOT throw a bunch of changes at it at once, because then you don't know what works and what doesn't.

As noted above - find your solo settings. For a passenger, just add rear preload.

I think all you need is more preload too. With two big/full-size people on one of these I don't think the nuances of a click or three of damping either way will really matter. It's not like you'll be out trying to drag knee.

Just sayin'...
